Sleeping at Last - Light

ASTORIA

I pushed the window close with struggle because of the force of the wind.

Rain was pouring like I have never seen before. I was afraid that the surface of the river was going to raise too high.

It was Sunday and the fourth day since I got here. I have started the fire in the fireplace by some miracle and the cabin was pretty cosy compared to outside.

The cold weather came like a hurricane.

As soon as all of the windows were closed, I let out a sigh and placed my hands over my hips.

"And that is settled." I murmured to myself and then went to the kitchen to make myself a hot chocolate.

On Friday, before I got back, I bought some supplies. Fruits and sweets.

I have been eating too much. Maybe because I was stressed and lonely.

I checked the phone to see if there was any new messages but there was nothing. Not even a text from Bianca.

The urge to call Theo was eating me up but I tried my best not to. I tapped my leg on the floor as I waited for the chocolate.

Another lightning bolted through the sky and the power went off.

"What the fuck?" I cursed and grabbed my phone that was on the counter and turned on the flashlight.

Did this really had to happen right now? And I guess no chocolate for you today Tori.

I wasn't particularly scared because it was still not pitch black outside. But I had to call someone or at least look for candles.

I'll call Hector to pick me up in an hour. With the phone in hand, I searched for any candles in the cabinets.

I guess luck was on my side because I found couple of them in the drawers next to the fireplace. The fire was already slightly illuminating the big room but still, I needed more light.

I lit the candles and placed them all over the living room.

As soon as I was satisfied with the everything around me, I sat on the sofa and searched for Hector's number.

Before I was able to press on the name, I heard a car engine outside. Despite the heavy rain, the sound of the car was still loud enough for me to hear.

Oh, he is probably here because of the weather. I'm sure he thought I would want to go back home.

I grabbed the cardigan that was thrown over the sofa and placed it over me. The front door was on the other side of the cabin and I made my way over there.
