ASTORIA

"Is this a new set?" I asked him and brought my legs to my chest.

We were in his office yet again.

I was sitting on my chair while Theo was opposite me. The chess on the table was different. This one was wooden and the figures were more interesting and more detailed.

"Yes."

"How many sets do you have?"

"Too many. I like to collect different ones."

"Hmm, this one looks far more expensive than the last one." I commented and this time Theo was the first one to moved the pieces and start.

I thought for a minute and then moved one of my pieces as well.

I wasn't actually doing any progress. At all.

I thought that chess wasn't going to be this complicated. Or maybe it was the fact that I was playing with someone who was master at this game.

"How was work for you today?" At the question, I lifted my eyes to him. He has never initiated a conversation before. It was me who always asked a question first.

Were things starting to change? I hope so.

"Good. I love it especially because of the horses. I love animals."

"What happened with the cat you wanted to keep?"

"Fifi. I haven't seen her that much and I don't want to keep here in the house when she wants to explore outside. It seems like she doesn't want my company that much." I shrugged my shoulders and smiled hesitantly.

The cat only comes over when she wants to eat and then disappears. I only had couple of opportunities when I was able to hold her in my arms and pat her.

Silence prevailed in the office yet again when we both concentrated on the game.

I bit my lip and tilted my head to the side.

What in the hell was going on?

My assumptions were probably right because chess was definitely for smart people.

"Hey, you're cheating!" I smacked his hand and frowned.

Theo chuckled lowly and moved the knight.

"I don't need cheating to win against you." He said and my mouth opened in shock.

"Excuse me? You are being mean now Mr. Cappell." I joked and smiled at him.

It was nice seeing him carefree. He was more relaxed and more open with me.

Theo was a passionate man about his job and his hobbies. I got to learn that he also played the piano. And he revealed that the piano in my room was there because he heard that I use to play when I was younger.
