Startled awake, I sit straight up in bed.
I take a few minutes to try to clear my head shaking it a bit and when that doesn't work I stumble into the bathroom to splash my face with water. Once I have woken up enough, I go start the coffee I know I'm going to need before going to my room to get ready for the day.

Once I'm ready, I grab my phone to call my supervisor, because even though I'm off all weekend I have no plans to return back to work until my sister is found. Hopefully she is found by the end of the weekend though, not because of my job but because I'm sick with worry.
My phone call goes as well as expected and I hang up feeling a bit better knowing that I will still have my job. I head to the kitchen and fill my to-go cup, grab my picture, phone and keys before I head out the door.

I park in front of the police department, grab my phone, the picture of Brittany and taking a deep breath I head in.
"I need to file a missing persons report" I say. The lady looks up with a bored expression.
"Sit over there, I'll have the first available officer with you," she says pointing to waiting room of sorts. While I wait, I check my bank account and am pleased to see the balance, Iknow I won't go bankrupt while looking for my sister.
I also check my email and catch up on Facebook. Checking the time I realize I have been sitting for an hour and decide to head back up to the desk.
"Excuse me miss, do you know when an officer will be available? This is important." I ask,and once more she looks up bored.
"Is it a missing child?" She asks.
"Well no..." I start but she cuts me off.
"Well then, go sit down. An officer will be with you shortly." She says in a snotty voice.
I do as she tells me not wanting to get thrown out or arrested whatever happens in a police department.

I'm snoozing when a throat clears. "Ma'am, are you the one wanting to file a missing person report?" The voice sounds and I open my eyes to find a uniformed officer in his mid-thirties standing in front of me.
"Yes sir." I reply sitting up.
"My name is officer Daniel Wilkins, please follow me. Just sit there and a detective will be with you momentarily," he says pointing to a chair and leaves the room.
Really? Did they really just do that? What the hell? At this point I was beyond frustrated. Someone was missing and they had their thumbs up their butts.
I banged my head against the table and groaned.

I wait a bit longer before becoming anxious. Momentarily my butt, it's been an hour and half. I'm brought out of my thoughts when the door bangs open and a man walks in and introduces himself.
"I'm detective Jason Marshall, and you are?" He asks.
"I'm Grace Mills and I'm here to report my sister Brittany Mills missing," I finish.
He sits across from me and opens a drawer handing over a form.
"Fill this out." He says with a growl. I do as I'm told and quickly fill out the report and hand it back. After he briefly looks at it he looks up at me and the questions begin.
"So Brittany left the house Thursday at around 9pm and hasn't returned?" He asks.
I reply "Yes sir," and he nods. He glances down at the report before looking up again.
"So you're saying you got really worried Friday evening about at 7:30pm?" He questions.
"Yes sir." I reply.
"Why not before?" He asks.
"Well it's not uncommon for her to stay out a lot, but she never misses dinner with me without calling first." I answer.
He nods, "Uh-huh" he says mildly, then continues, "She's twenty two?" He questions.
"Yes." I answer simply.
"Okay, well there's nothing we can do." He says standing up.
"What?!?!" I exclaim.
"She's a twenty two year old adult with a history of partying, therefore we can't report her missing for 48 hours. Return tomorrow evening and file a report at that time." He says leaving the room.

Great. How wonderful is that?!?! Way to help someone out and not waste their time.
Angrily, I quickly grab my stuff and rush out to my car.
Looking back as I reach for the door handle I flip the building the bird, "Thanks for all the help jerks!" I mutter under my breath getting in. I grip the steering wheel tightly and take off for home. Time for me to regroup.

When I arrive back at the apartment, I'm feeling frustrated and exhausted. I toss everything in my hands down on to the coffee table and flop down onto the couch, laying my head back and putting my arm over my eyes. Where do I go from here? What the heck do I do? My thoughts get interrupted by the 'bing' of my phone, causing me to jump and I sit up quickly and fumble with grabbing my phone.
Looking at it I'm sorely disappointed to see it's just a text from my boss asking how everything is going and how I'm holding up. I quickly reply that I'm holding up and tell her about the police department fiasco.
I go to set the phone back down and that's when I notice Brittany's notebook. I pick it up,flipping through it and how I missed it before I have no clue, but there next to the names and numbers is addresses. I quickly go through it again, taking notes this time, to figure out a system to get me around the quickest and easiest.
When I'm satisfied I grab my stuff and run out of the apartment, locking the door behind me. I put the first address in to the GPS and head in the right direction. Here goes nothing.

"No I haven't seen her, and as a matter of fact if you see her... Tell her she's fired!" The manexclaims, slamming the door in my face. Great. That was my last shred of hope. That something crazy had happened and she was now at work.
I get in my car feeling defeated, heartbroken and exhausted. It was the same answereverywhere I went.
"Haven't seen her and she's probably off with some guy." This was from her supposed friends.

I get back to the apartment, laying my keys in its dish and everything else on the coffee table, I fix myself something quick and easy for dinner.
Once finished I clean the mess, take a shower and grabbing everything, I head to my bedroom.
Once settled I look at Brittany's notebook and grabbing mine, I transfer everything over and start eliminating.
Finished I look over it and noticed there's two addresses I haven't tried. Looking at the maps I know these are not places I want to go by myself. I put everything aside, there's nothing more I can do right now, as I don't even have a lead.
Shutting off my lamp I lay facing the wall. An idea comes to me and I try to push it away but all I can think is what if it's my only way?
Can I push my feelings away and contact them to find my sister?
