Chapter Seven: The Finding of Clark

A knocking on the door of the Chester’s awoke Felicity from her sleep. She had been in the middle of a wonderful dream where she and Clark were getting married, and wasn’t too happy about being woken up.

A tired-looking Leo Prescott was at the door when she opened it. Her brothers and sisters all came running to the door, curious to see who would come to the house this early. Cordelia came, too.

“Why, what a surprise, Leo! I wasn’t expecting you at such an early hour?” Cordelia said, rubbing her eyes and trying to appear cheerful. But no one wanted to see Leo Prescott anymore, at least since he raised everyone’s taxes to an almost unbearable amount.

“Have you seen Clark?” He asked, not bothering with pleasantries. Felicity froze. Certainly Clark had returned home last night!

“No, Leo, we haven’t. Why? What’s the problem?” Cordelia asked. Leo sighed heavily.

“He wasn’t in bed when we woke up. Charlotte hasn’t seen him, either.” He said. Felicity was very confused by this point. Charlotte had walked home with him last night! How could she not know where he was?

“Would you like us to help look for him?” Felicity asked, pushing past her brothers and sisters. Leo nodded, his bloodshot eyes cast downward.

Felicity’s heart was clenched worriedly, a bad feeling in the pit of her stomach as she pulled on a coat and made her way to the creek, since that’s where she saw him last. There were people everywhere, calling out Clark’s name and searching in sheds, barns and other places he could be stuck in.

“Clark? Clark, where are you?” Felicity called out. She waded through the creek, searched behind bushes, and checked the old tree house. He was nowhere to be found.

She started walking to the place where they had the fire last night when she tripped on a branch, scraping her knee. She couldn’t help but remember when she had last scraped her knee and hands, where she and Clark had first talked and he had patched up her knee. The sweetness of the memory threatened the tears in her eyes to overflow. She started pushing herself up when she noticed the blood on her dress. Her hands and knees weren’t even bleeding, though. Where was all this blood coming from?

She looked up and discovered the source. Clark was lying on the ground, dead, soaked in his own blood. And Felicity was now also soaked in her lover’s blood.

She let out a bloodcurdling scream, loud enough to alert everyone in the village that something was wrong. Charlotte and Willis, forever inseparable, came first. Charlotte took one look at Clark and joined Felicity’s screams with her own. Willis was staring at Clark in absolute horror.

Others soon came, including Cordelia who was desperately trying to pull Felicity away from Clark. Her hands were dripping in Clark’s blood as she tried to figure out what to do with it. Eventually she gave up, sobbing into Clark’s now red shirt. Her face was also streaked in red, her appearance now coordinating with her wails and screams. It took three men and her mother to tear her away from him.

Charlotte was wailing, and Willis walked up to a horrified Leo and stated, “I’m taking Charlotte to my house now.” He pulled Charlotte away from Clark as the other men picked Clark up and took him to the Prescott’s to clean him up and prepare him for a proper burial.

All around there were crying women, grim-faced men, horrified fathers, and hysteric mothers and lovers. This wouldn’t be the last time they had a situation like this, though. Not by a long shot.

I know this is a morbid chapter and again I'm sorry!

This is a tragedy not a comedy!

Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson- Winter Song

The video is kind of odd, but the song is perfect for this chapter.
