The birth of the Kwisatz Haderach has been in the plans of the Bene Gesserit for centuries. Carefully crossing bloodlines to create the One who will see all, know all, and rule all. Many people on many planets have been eagerly awaiting the birth of their Messiah ever since their grandmothers whispered the legends into their ears when they still had the brains of children. On the planet of Beakkal, he is known to the people as Ja-Egosi Uzọ. On the desert planet of Arrakis, he is Lisan al Gaib. But no matter the name or the promises he is said to fulfil, his origins always trace back to the tales told by the Sisterhood. When he arrives, all common folk of the Imperium will bow before him, they will give their lives to see him crowned the Emperor of All. The Bene Gesserit have always manipulated the Imperium from the shadows, and when the Kwisatz Haderach sits the throne, it will be them pulling the strings of their carefully formed puppet.

Despite bearing the Atreides name, as the daughter of a second son, I held little to inherit. I was burdened early – too early – with the unfortunate information that my life would be insignificant. My mother, never one to soften harsh truths, told me plainly: unless I found a way to change my status, I would probably end up the wife of some fat country lord and never leave my home planet. My father's older brother was the Duke Leto Atreides, ruler of Caladan. Yet my father, being the younger brother, merely inherited a modest estate when Grandfather died. It was on that estate I was born, and it was on that estate, I feared, that I would die.

The dread of my dull life made me a despicable child. Unable to be a part of the hierarchy that existed in politics, I created a hierarchy of my own, one where I held the iron hand. All the other girls my age wanted to be my friend just as badly as they wanted to gouge my eyes out, and that was precisely how I wanted it. The power I felt when I saw their fearful and envious glances was like a drug, stronger than any love or comfort. I was at the top of the food chain among the thirteen-year-old girls in the small town of Osorio. Anyone who dared challenge my rule would face the wrath of me and my minions. And they did. One foolishly bold girl, blind with jealousy after I stole her witless boyfriend, tried to undermine me. She used childish notions, such as spreading rumours, and sweet-talking my most loyal subjects. After school, one of my confidants lured her into the forest, where I and some other girls stood waiting for her. We shoved her head deep into the mud, again and again, until she sobbed and swore to back down. She, of course, told her cunt of a mother, who wasted no time informing mine.

My mother was a phony woman. She had been taught the Bene Gesserit ways, and the Bene Gesserit are known for being callously self-serving. If my dress was not up to her standards, she would not allow me to be seen in it. Not because she cared about me, but because every wrinkle, every frayed thread, reflected back on her.

"Do you not understand how this makes our family look?!" She cried after hearing of the incident in the forest, her voice trembling and eyes welling up with tears.

The very next day, she placed me on a space-faring vessel going to Chapterhouse, the home-planet of the Bene Gesserit. I was to attend the same school she had once attended. Her excuse was that this would finally give me a "true sense of purpose". But I saw through her lies. She was not sending me away for a better life, she was scrubbing me from hers, ensuring I could no longer damage her reputation.
