Chapter Two- Unexpected

I turned around to look at Dan's worried face. He smiled slightly, searching my face for any emotions. My face remained neutral while i waited for him.

"I'm sorry ok? It was a joke. I just got dared to scare anyone who appeared in the janitor's closet. I swear i didn't know it's you! Please, just this once, forgive me." Dan pleaded with sincerity in his eyes. I sighed and nodded. It's hard to grudge against your best friend if he's really sorry right?

"Just don't do it again. Do you know how scared i was when they told me you got a broken arm and is hiding in the closet? I was confused why you did that but i went anyway. In the end i almost thought i'm gonna get raped by some psycho in a white sheet! Arg.. enough about that. I have to go, catch you later." I managed a small smile to Dan as the Thorn witch brushed past us, casting me a 'In the office right now' look. I stuck a tongue out at her when her back is facing me.

"Sure, haahas, you need to stop that," Dan wishpered. "One day she's gonna catch you doing that, and you'll be soo dead." I waved Dan goodbye and followed behind Mrs Thorn without knowing that there's someone following me.

"Take a seat please, Ms brown." Mrs Thorn said without looking up from her desk, filing the papers into their respective folders. I swallowed as i waited anxiously for my impending doom, even though i don't know exactly what i did. It's not like i get to be called into the office every other day for something like breaking the rules, so i'm pretty curious and scared at the same time. Before i could ask Mrs Thorn anything, another voice cut in.

"I'm here, Mrs Thorn." I turned around and saw Bruce. Shit, Bruce Layne the new guy. Don't tell me he made up a story of me doing something i did not do to him. I wasn't exactly mean to him right?

"Yes, Mr Layne. Please take a seat too." Mrs Thorn gestured for Bruce to sit down as i followed him with my eyes. He smiled at me after he sat down in the chair beside me, making me more confused than i already am. Mrs Thorn was now flipping through a file, one that looked like a student info folder that held our information.

"So you're Ashley," Bruce took my attention away from Mrs Thorn when his voice broke my thoughts. "I was thinking whether it was you when Mrs Thorn called your name in class before." Bruce finished while i frowned. It wasn't making any sense, does he meant about yesterday?" I was about to ask him what he meant when Mrs Thorn interrupted. Today seems like a shut your mouth day, i didn't get to ask a single question!

"Ms Brown, I'm sure your father had mentioned to you about Mr Layne's arrival. You will be assigned to look after him for the rest of the school year, tutoring him on topics he missed for the previous term." I stared at her dumbfounded, my face frowning.

"My father didn't tell me anything. I don't even know him!" I said with a surprised look in my face. More surprised when i caught a sad look in Bruce's eyes. Mrs Thorn was confused now, her eyebrows furrowed together looking between me and Bruce.

"Your father called me yesterday with his father," Mrs Thorn said dryly, looking at me straight in the eye. "Mr Layne is supposed to be your Uncle's son, someone whom you knew when you were small." My eyes turned wide and i swung my head to see Bruce nodding his head.

"Remember my father, Stanley? Your father's best friend?" Bruce asked me, his eyes never leaving mine. I grasped when i remembered Uncle Stanley, yes and a little boy who played with me when i was small. No wonder his name sounds so familiar!

"Omg, Its you!" I laughed in amazement as i looked at him in a different light. Yes, it's definitely him. His neat blond hair when he was small was messy now, his eyes the same colour but more striking now. How i didn't recognised him in the first place startled me, it's only been eight years and he changed so much! Bruce grinned at me.
