Phuwin was wondering what was taking Dunk so long to come home when he heard the doorbell rang. He was about to ream Dunk out when he saw Pond at the door. He had never looked this solemn before. Phuwin felt his heart drop.
"Did something happen to Dunk?" he whispered.
"He took the bullet for Joong, but he is alive. He needs to be in the hospital to recover but the doctors said that he would be fine." Phuwin sighed in relief.
" You scared the hell out of me! I thought he was dead." Phuwin knew it was the wrong thing to say when he saw Pond's face crumbled at the word 'dead'. Phuwin tried to hold onto him when he collapsed onto him, sobbing his heart out. Phuwin was struggling since Pond was much more bigger than him, being the alpha that he is. He tried his best to maneuver the both of them to the sofa.
He had only gotten bits and pieces of what Pond babbled through his tears. Something about it being his fault, he shouldn't have trusted others to do his job, seeing Dunk being shot in front of him, blood, rushing him to the hospital. Pond didn't seem to be calming down, which gave Phuwin no choice but to release calming pheromones, hoping that his designation as an omega would finally work in his favour. It thankfully did.
"It's not your fault, Pond. No one could have predicted that this would happen. Dunk.. Dunk is a professional like he said he is. Even a bullet to his heart can't kill him. It missed" Phuwin stroked his back hoping the words would help. Pond had a wet chuckle at what he said.
" I'm just afraid, Phu. This was the first time he is this close to death. I don't think I can take it." Phuwin began to wonder how this big baby is an alpha but what he said tugged at his heart. Dunk had been through so much danger but no one knew.
" We won't. It's not his time yet. That's why we need to be on alert. There's something else that I just found out too." Phuwin began to tell Pond what Dunk had been hiding from them.
"I'll inform Joong and look into it. I'm sorry for messing your shirt." Pond apologized when he saw Phuwin's tear stained shirt. Phuwin waved it off.
"You... don't hate me anymore, do you?" Pond couldn't help but ask. This had been the friendliest interaction between them. It was his only chance to bridge the gap, he had to take his chance.
"I'm really sorry about what I did previously. I-" Phuwin stopped him. He finally understood what Dunk said about Pond being young back then. He had never seen pass the alpha that forced him with his alpha voice all those years back. He had never seen the change in him. He had never seen how sensitive this alpha could be. He had chosen to be vulnerable when he could have chosen rage over what happened to Dunk. Dunk being the omega that he is, was never harmed when he was with Pond.
"I don't hate you, Pond. I don't" Phuwin was finally willing to admit to himself.
"Let's leave the past in the past and start over again. I'm Phuwin Tangsakyuen, the clan leader of the Tangsakyuen clan. Nice to meet you too." Pond beamed at what he said.
"I'm Pond Naravit, second in command for the Aydin clan. Nice to meet you." All Pond could focus on was how Phuwin had finally graced him with a smile for the first time in years.
