Lando's POV

Unfortunately Taura wanted to keep it a secret for now. Didn't like it, but I was gonna do whatever she wanted.

I wanted to keep her happy. Didn't want her to doubt this and quit.

So I also calmed the flirting on the radio down a little. Just a little though because I liked her annoyed groans.

She secretly liked it too.

"There he is" Verstappen said as he patted my back. We were both on our way to the garage. "Mr. steal your best friends girl"

I technically didn't steal her, but fair enough, Martin probably didn't like the constant flirting.
Couldn't help myself though.

Besides, she was my girl before she was his.

"Well technically he stole her from me" I shrugged. I didn't know if he was serious about this or not.

"No, you messed it up with her" he said with a straight face. "That's completely different"

Guess he was actually serious about it.

"Well.." I mumbled. Didn't have a lot to say to that. "Is he okay though?"

"Were you okay when you guys 'broke' up?" He used air quotes, as if we weren't dating for real.

I said nothing, he didn't need me to. He knew I wasn't fine at all when we broke up.

"Good luck out there" I said, didn't mean it at all. "You too" he answered, also not meaning it.

But it also didn't matter for him, he didn't need luck, he was always on pole.
I, on the other hand, definitely needed it.

"Let's go" Taura gently brushed her hand down my back and smiled as she walked passed me, to the garage.

But who needed pole when you had a girl like that waiting for you at the end of the day.

———————————

It's not like Taura could do much during qualifying. It wasn't raining, so it wasn't pretty straightforward.

I had to do this.

"This is the lap that counts, Lando" Taura's voice came over the radio. "You can do this"

Normally strategist never said anything through the radio, not to the drivers at least.
But Taura and I, we changed that.

We also kinda developed a secret language. People thought we were flirting all the time, which was true, but we also used it to communicate things about the race.

But that little message gave me so much confidence, like she always did.

Drove my heart out, gave it everything, for her. To make her proud. But also for me and the team.

"That's pole position!" Will almost yelled. "That's what I'm talking about baby!" I said as I pressed the radio button.

Jumped out of my car and ran straight to my baby who was waiting for me, with the biggest smile on her face.

Wrapped my arms around her and so did she. For once I was actually happy I still had my helmet on because if I wasn't wearing that, I would've just kissed her then and there.

Didn't want to be a secret in the first place.

Max patted my back and nodded his head as he walked passed me, to his team.

We both kinda knew that he was gonna drive passed me in the first corner tomorrow.
But it didn't matter.

I still beat him today and was gonna have Taura next to me tonight.
