Months came and went by. Shannon's field visit assignments were completed and she didn't need to leave the academy. Neither did she need to stay late-up at night. Jinni had been getting extra classes on the spaceship. It was only for her spaceship team and she was more annoyed than ever. She needed to spend most of the evening with Ron and with extra-hard classes, she, Arjun, and Alen were finding it very difficult to manage the spaceship alone. While Ron, Hazel, and Chase fought.
Lately, her friends started to notice how different Shannon behaved. She was always occupied in her thoughts and it always used to catch Jinni's and Flare's eyes. Andy covered up for Shannon most of the time she was learning dark arts with Arjun. But both of them knew that their friends were starting to get suspicious.
'And now coming to the relation of mermaids with dark arts.' Arjun said.
'I am tired of listening.' Shannon said annoyed.
'We just started ten minutes ago.'
'Great news. I have fifty minutes more to deal with this rubbish lecture of yours.'
'Rubbish lecture.' Arjun said scornfully. ' It is impossible to explain to you the value of this book and the things I am trying to explain to you.' He said pointing at the book on the table.
'I do not get why you chose the cafeteria to give this big dark arts lecture to me. The library is much better and safer.' Shannon said snatching the book from which Arjun was trying to teach.
'Your friend Andy is trying her level best to make sure your friends do not get suspicious by staying there and covering up for you. And you want to sit there and learn, where your friends will walk into the room any minute. What explanation are you going to give to them if they see this book filled with dark arts.'
'That doesn't explain why you select the cafeteria. Anyone can walk inside now.'
'No one is.' Arjun said. 'Everyone is busy and no one comes to the academy cafeteria. Everyone goes to the cafeteria in the hostels.'
'I feel, any moment now someone will come inside this room and we are going to be in big trouble.'
'You are so skeptical.'
'And you are so repulsive.'
'You know what, take these notes.' He said handing down a notebook. 'Read them, learn, and try to understand them. Any doubts be free to ask I will explain.'
'I think I will learn this way much better.' Shannon said going through the notebook.
'And tomorrow you will have a test.'
'A test.' Shannon repeated. 'Are you, my teacher.'
'I gave your father a word and I am very keen on completing it.'
'My father did a really good job by handing the work to you.' Shannon murmured.
'He did it Because he knows I am a person worth trusting.'
'Great, if you are done with your talk. Can you remove the frequency bolder?'
'What is the hold up in it.' Arjun said, snapping his finger and blue coloured covering vanished.
'Be ready for tomorrow's test.' Arjun said, giving a crooked smile. 'I am very serious about it.'
'Paranoid.' Shannon said to herself.
'As you like it. I do have a good ear.' He said leaving the room. This was one of the things which irritated Shannon the most. Arjun's power was frequency. He could hear every single word anyone would say.
