It had been years since they had seen eachother, 10 years to be exact. Chris and Felix were best friends as teens but one day, they just lost contact. Felix was now 27 and Chris was 30, time had gone by and they'd grown up. They never thought they'd see eachother again but Felix was in a crisis, he had nowhere to go and nobody left, Chan was his only hope. He just begged that Chris still lived in his parent's old house (he moved in alone after they passed.)
He stood there, looking up at the large house that looked big enough to fit at least 5 families in it. He had tears streaming down his face and a heart full of desperate hope as he reached up to the door. He left a couple knocks, terrified and hopeful for whoever was to open it.
Chris was wide awake, despite it being literally 1am and almost pitch black outside except for the dim glow from the street lights. The last thing he expected was a knock on the door. Yet, he still went over and opened it (completely forgetting that anyone could be there, maybe even a murderer). It wasn't a murderer, but it was the last person he expected to show up at his door that day.
"Felix?" Chris was pretty much gob-smacked to see his old best friend at his door. It may have been a decade but he could recognise those freckles and eyes anywhere.
"I'm so so sorry for disturbing you at this time, I sure you didn't really want to see me after ten years but is there any way I could stay the night? I have no-one else to go to, Chris." Felix explained, wiping the tears from his eyes with the back of his hand.
"Come in." Chris spoke, guiding Felix inside despite still being shocked at the sight of him. The younger looked distraught, very obviously needing his help and if there was one thing Chris knew? He would die for that man. "Take a seat." Chris gestured to the couch in his large living-area, watching as the male did as told.
"I'm so sorry about this." Felix looked so guilty and it broke Chris, he didn't need to be guilty. Chris believed Felix when he said he had nowhere else to go.
"Don't be." Chris smiled his signature, small smile. "Just try to calm yourself down a bit, do you still like hot chocolate?"
"Yeah, thank you." Felix said, watching as Chris turned to head off to his kitchen. "Can you do my hot chocolate with-"
"Whipped cream, mini marshmallows and chocolate dust. A spoon too so you can scoop up the marshmallows before they fall in the drink because then they get too soggy and weird to eat." Chris turned back around, smiling wider. "I know, just the way you like it."
Chris left the room to the kitchen, to make the hot chocolate and left Felix to take a minute to settle himself and calm his tears. Chris always knew how to calm him down when Felix got upset, it was like nothing had changed.
Felix's tears soon faded and Chris came in, two mugs in his hands (and a spoon). "Here you go, Lix."
Lix. God, that nickname. Felix hadn't been called that in years, Chris was the only person who ever called him by the nickname.
"Thank you."
"You look fucking distraught mate, it's a pleasure I have to have." Chris chuckled, his use of the swear word reminding Felix of how Chris did, in fact, swear every other sentence.
"Honestly, I am." Felix sighed, taking his spoon and scooping up all the mini marshmallows that floated on top of the whipped cream.
"So... how did you end up crying on my doorstep?" The elder spoke, his voice as gentle and caring as it always was for Felix.
"Well my parent's decided they never wanted to see me again about four months ago and my ex-girlfriend just broke up with me and kicked me to the streets, this morning."
"God, Felix. That sounds horrible, did you come far to find me?" Chris' concern for the twenty-seven year old only increased by each word out of the male's mouth.
"Well I lived about 3 towns away, with my ex and was willing to do anything to find you. Considering you are literally the last person I have left, right now." Felix explained, sipping his hot chocolate. It was just the way he liked it.
"I'm so sorry, do you know why your ex kicked you out? And why your parents hate you?" Chris was treading on thin ice, to be quite honest. It was such a sensitive topic and he hadn't seen the younger in a decade.
"I'm gay."
"I officially hate your family and your ex." Chris let out a small chuckle. "Homophobes piss me off."
"Yeah?" Felix gave a small smile, the comfort he felt around Chris as a kid was reviving.
"Yeah. I mean I'm gay too, so I know how annoying those kinda people can be. I can't imagine dealing with it from the people you love most."
"I was so scared to come out to Aubrey, my ex, because I knew if I lost her that I'd be basically screwed but I couldn't just suffer in silence so I just told her and well... here I am." Felix felt tears welling up in his eyes again, "And, I don't even know what to do next. I came running to you and you probably don't even want to see me-"
"No, tonight is the best thing to happen to me in 10 years. I've been so lonely and I know it's crazy but i've missed you so much and i've kinda been waiting to see you again. Living in this massive house, all alone. It gets a bit hard, y'know." Chris didn't even realise he was crying too, honestly it felt kinda stupid but it was an emotional moment, nonetheless.
"Come here." Felix mumbled, standing up and gesturing for a hug. Chris tightly wrapped his arms around Felix, sitting his face in the crook of the younger's neck. Just like he used to. Felix felt so safe, he always did, in Chris' arms.
"Y'know, Lix." Chris spoke, still locked in a hug with the other male. "I'm pretty fucking in love with you."
"Y-you are?" Felix didn't mean to stutter, he just didn't expect those words to leave the elder's mouth.
"Yeah. To be honest, I always have been."
"I don't really know what to do with this information." They never broke the hug.
"Do as you wish, I just needed to tell you whilst you're here." Chris smiled into Felix's neck, not expecting to be pulled away and for Felix just to stop and stare into his eyes. It was far from awkward, in fact it was just odd. Odd in the case that without even realising it, they were getting pulled towards eachother, like magnets.
"Chris." Felix whispered, his breath tickling against the elder's features. "Thanks for helping me. Today and for the last like 20 years. Even if 10 of them were spent out of contact, the entire time you were on my mind and in my heart."
"I'd die for you Felix. Deep inside, I was dead without you. I'm so sorry I never went to find you again, sorry I never tried to bring us together sooner."
"It's fine. I'm here right now." Felix lifted his hands to hold Chris' face, bringing him ever so slightly closer. So close that one flinch and they'd be kissing.
One flinch.
And they'd be-
"Don't move." Felix blurted out, crashing his lips against Chris'. Time stopped. Every negative thought, every inch of sadness or loneliness dissapeared into thin air. Like they were never there in the first place. Felix completely forgot why he was at Chris' house in the first place. It felt like 10 years never happened, or they did but the duo never seperated. Chris could taste the hot chocolate still on Felix's lips, just the way he liked it.
From that night, Felix moved in with Chris. They kissed a lot and eventually became boyfriends, until Chris proposed two months later. They got married in secret in their garden and lived their lives together. Just the two of them. Just the way they liked it.
