Visiting the beautiful lake slowly becomes a part of my daily routine. After a whole day of managing the estate, this feels like an escape from reality.
I forbid any servants from joining me during my walks, I just want to be alone. I and Marcus start running into each other more often than not.
“Good afternoon, my Lady,” Marcus happily runs to me and sits down on a rock. I chuckle at his antics and chuck a pebble at him that he catches easily.
“How was your day?” He asks enthusiastically.
“It went as usual. I had tutors over, they taught me how to manage everything. Then my weekly dance practice….” I ramble on and on about my boring day and Marcus giggles, “It seems you had a busy day.”
“Indeed, how was yours?” I ask curiously.
“Today is a sunny day. So I fed the horses and took them out grazing. It was really fun,” he replies enthusiastically, he's a very cheerful and happy person.
“That sounds wonderful. Why weren't you around yesterday?”
“Oh I was visiting my family on the outskirts. Apologies for not informing you,” he mumbles sheepishly.
“No need to apologise. I was simply curious. How is your family?” I ask him out of curiosity, wanting to know more about him.
“I only have my Mother and my little sister. They're both doing well. This year our domain had a bountiful harvest,” the joy is visible in his eyes as he talks.
“That's a wonderful thing. I'm glad the weather is in our favour this season,” I happily play with the clear water of the lake.
“Some people are even saying that the new Lady is our lucky charm, we haven't had any turbulent weather ever since you came here,” he says teasingly.
“People are just being silly,” I mumble shyly, “The sun's going down, I should head back inside the mansion,” I bid him farewell and walk back towards the mention with a smile.

Unfortunately for Raya, they weren't the only ones present by the lake today.
While returning from the stables, Lord's aide Viktor hears people talking by the lake. He decides to check out of curiosity and finds Lady Raya chattering and smiling at a stable boy. Them being in a secluded place made him concerned for his Lord's reputation.
Viktor quickly heads to Caius’s office, wondering how he'd react. Reaching the door, he knocks on the door thrice, “Come in,” Caius’s voice rumbles authoritatively.
Viktor bows and clears his throat. Caius pauses sipping tea and looks up at his worried face, “Is something wrong? You were supposed to be here half an hour earlier.”
“My Lord, I have something to report,” he says hesitantly.
Caius's eyebrows furrow as he looks up at Viktor sternly, “Tell me.”
“When I was returning from the stables, I saw Lady Raya talking to a stable boy by the lake. They…they seemed really friendly with each other,” Viktor gulps after finishing his sentence and slowly looks up at Caius. He has been working under Caius for years, but has never seen him so furious. Viktor flinches as the teacup shatters in his hand.
“Did he touch her?” He asks in an eerie voice as he looks at the blood dripping down his bloody hand and soaking his white shirt.
“My Lord…you should get your hand che-”
“I ASKED IF THAT DAMNED MONGREL TOUCHED MY WIFE?” he roars, the vein in his forehead becoming more visible.
Viktor flinches and steps back, “N…no, my Lord. At least not when I was present.”
Caius gets up and heads for the door, before heading out he turns around and says,
“Tell Lisa to go get Raya to my chambers.”
