I was so nervous walking down to the principles office. I usually didn't care about getting caught, or even his dumb consequences, but this was different. I just did a huge prank on Lydia. No one has ever had the guts to do that, after all she could ruin your life in a matter of seconds. I might get expelled, but that seems too harsh. Maybe a suspension? Probably, it only seems fit I guess, and I bet Lydia would love to get rid of me for some time before striking back.
As I walked down the hall it was completely silent, everyone knew me being called to the principles office was probably related to Lydia's shrieking. With every step eyes followed me through the halls, and I just kept my head up. I wasn't going to show any signs of regret, or unhappiness with the outcome of getting at Lydia. This was mine to own, and I was going to wear it like a badge of honor. I always had pride in pranks I have done or anything else, they always had a purpose.
As I approached the principals office my palms began to feel a little clammy. I wonder what my mom would think if I got suspended. She hates how my detentions were quite regular, but she would flip out at the thought of suspension. I took a deep breath as I walked into the office, I think I'm ready to get an earful.
"Clary take a seat, this might be a while." The principle said in a monotone voice.
"Yes sir." I said in a clipped voice that had to emotion.
I took a seat, and just stared at my principle waiting for him to start his lecture. That didn't come right away though, he just stared at me, and I could tell he was trying to figure out what he wanted to say to me. This surprised me, he always seemed like he knew what he was going to say to me. This time it was different I guess, because Lydia ended up with flour all over her face.
My principle sighed, and then started to talk, "Do you know why you are down here Clary?"
"You wanted to have the honor of being in my presence?" I replied back with a straight face, but I could have burst out laughing at any moment.
My principles face seemed to redden when I said that, he didn't look very happy. "Are you trying to get in more trouble Clarissa? Are you trying to get expelled or something?"
"No," I said, but my voice came out choked and a little high pitched.
"Well Lydia came to me with a, well, complaint. It very much had to involve you, and I wasn't happy to hear about what you did. Do you even feel bad?" He looked at me like he was expecting me to break down for getting caught or something.
"Well as you say 'honesty is the best policy' so no." When I said this, the principle stood up with a even redder face this time.
"Wha- how don't you feel a little bad! Lydia is nothing but kind to you, she is acting like your stepmother, but not like one in the movies! You should show her some kindness too!" He practically was screaming now, and this infuriated me! How could he think she was such an angel!
"Nice to me? You are telling me that you think she is nice, okay that so wrong. Tell me, is making me do her homework every day nice? Or making me run to the gym and back for no reason? Is yelling at me constantly a way to show kindness? You tell me, is that the definition of kindness." I was so mad, even if Lydia did pretty much run the school I was not going to let the principle say she was kind to me. Or anyone, all she did was gossip and try to tear people down, she is exactly an evil stepmother.
The principle looked shocked, probably because I just went on a full blown rant, but it just had to be said. I noticed in my whole spew I ended up standing, so I sat back down with a frustrated sigh. I put my head in my hands, and was praying that I wouldn't be expelled.
"Well, okay then. I'll have to give you detention for that little outburst, but punishment still needs to be put in place for the action you did. I talked to Lydia and we both agreed that a suspension of two day seemed fit. Also you will not me allowed to go to the school dance."
"Wait what! I have to go to that dance, my grade depends on it! I need to sign in, and show I came in character! You can't do that, it isn't fair!" I couldn't believe that Lydia would stoop that low to get me out of the dance, oh wait, shes the evil stepmother.
"Well that's not my problem anymore, it has been decided. Your suspension begins now I've already called your mom, and she is on her way to get you. You may be dismissed now."
My mouth was hanging open in shock, had that really just happened? He just dismissed me, and didn't listen to me at all. I got up from my seat, and then walked to the door slowly and calmly. I tried to steady my breathing, and made sure not to punch a wall. That wouldn't be very Cinderella like. When I opened up my locker a note fell out of my locker. I picked it up, and read it:
Cinder can't make the ball, how sad...
~StepmotherI ripped the note, and threw it on the ground. How is it when I get back at Lydia she just gets worse? It wasn't fair, I still don't get how Cinderella could do this. Being kind, being so selfless, and still having happiness. It seemed impossible, but maybe it wasn't. It would be so hard though.
I grabbed my bag, and made two promises to myself. I was going to that dance, and I was going to try to be more like Cinderella. I made my way to the front of the school with a little bit of hope.
