Without conflict, there is no story; and it is the antagonist/villain who most often provides that conflict. In most literature, the antogonist is probably not best described as a villain but as something or someone who is in conflict with the protagonist

Every fantasy or action story requires a villain. Without them, the story seems to be incomplete or will be really boring.

Who forces the heroes to become the hero that he is?

What makes a story interesting is how the protagonist figure out how to stop or defeat the antagonist. The stonger or the wiser the enemy is, the more struggle and critical decisions the hero will be needing. He need to overcome or exceeds the villain (or even himself)  to win. Some of the best stories are those, even the good wins in the end, the hero makes a sacrifice to overcome the battle.

"Without the villain, we couldn't have a "good guy." Any hero needs a nemesis. Without this counterpoint, we can't see the intricate aspects of the character that make a hero."

Examples of different kinds of villains(answers the question "What makes a villain - a villain?")

1. Oppose perspective with the protagonist. Ex. Gen. Zod (superman, fight for their race vs. defend earth), Prof X and Magneto(Xmen, fight for humans or coexist with humans vs. fight humans for mutants to exist)

2. Traumatic Background (May bad or traumatic experience sya, tapos gusto nyang gumanti or gawin din sa iba yun naranasan nya)  Ex. Joker (maltreated nun younger days nya)

Ex. Nezumi(Seal of Light)

 1. Who existed first? the hero or the villain?

 2. What pushed them to become a villain?

 3. Is this still a battle between bad or good, or is this a battle of perspective?
