While driving, I couldn’t keep the ridiculous grin off my face. I couldn’t believe that he had been so bold to kiss me to begin with, let alone the second time. My mind kept running over how perfect the kiss had been and how astonished I was to find out that I had been his first kiss.  It also surprised me that something as simple as a kiss could make him reek with anxiety when he was a trained assassin.

Suddenly, my mind drifted back to the scaly creature that had attacked us before. It seemed to be after one of us, but it just didn’t make any sense. Why was it after us to begin with? My gaze slid towards a sleeping Ahnyx, and then a memory came tumbling back. His eyes had flashed with recognition when he had seen the creature. Had he dreamt of the creature as I had before in my vision? I had so many questions, but even my visions couldn’t help me answer them.

Scowling at not knowing what awaited me back in my home dimension, I drove on. I wished that I had enough time to spend with Ahnyx, but we just didn’t have enough. With the vision I had seen, it seemed to be that my dimension was on the verge of war and something would happen soon enough. Taking in my surroundings, my heart fell when I noticed that we were closer to our destination; more so than I had thought. Looking back towards Ahnyx, I decided to wake him.

“Ahnyx.” I whispered, shaking his body as I did so. He stirred, but then he tossed in his sleep and a frown entered his once peaceful expression. I looked at him in confusion and then I noticed when he winced that he was having a nightmare. I shook him harder wanting to know what could possibly be bothering him at this moment. His eyes suddenly snapped open and I had moved just in time when he sprung up and almost attacked me. My pulse had increased when I noticed he had almost wrapped his fingertips around my neck.

He seemed confused at first, but as he took in his surroundings, it all seemed to dawn on him. His eyes snapped towards me then and he began to profusely apologize for what he had done. I waved him off, still looking at him in curiosity.

“What… what happened in your dream?” I finally asked him when he was able to calm himself down. His gaze quickly darted away from me for a moment, as if thinking whether he should tell me a lie or not. I took this time to look at the clock and noticed that we were almost an hour away from our destination now. We would have to say our goodbyes soon. With that thought in mind, I turned my attention back towards Ahnyx to see that he was staring at me. I couldn’t decipher his expression, but I knew immediately that something was up. “What’s wrong? Why aren’t you telling me?” I asked boldly, knowing that it somehow had to do with our situation. Why wouldn’t he tell me when I had told him everything?

“It’s just… I’m not exactly sure what was going on in it. It all seemed to be confusing. The only things I can remember were the scaly creatures and the red beasts fighting each other. But… I saw you as well.” He seemed to be lost in thought as he told me this, and it all suddenly made sense. He had basically had the same vision as me, but the question was: why would he be dreaming about that? Before I could decode his dream anymore, he looked at the clock and found that it was his turn to drive. I pulled over and he began to drive after we switched spots.

As he drove, the conversation dropped and silence engulfed the car. I then began to really ponder what all of this really meant. I mean, it couldn’t have just been a coincidence that we had the same vision and that we saw each other in them. I looked over to where Ahnyx sat and saw that he too was deep in thought.

I decided to just go ahead and rest since it seemed like we weren’t going to do too much talking in the hour we have left. Looking at Ahnyx’s thoughtful gaze once more, I allowed my eyes to drift shut and allowed my dreams to overtake me.
