I could hear colossal noises coming from all directions. Everything seemed to be blurry to me and somehow, I knew that I was just a new born baby. I looked in the face of what I knew to be my mother and saw tears falling from her eyes, leaving wet trails as they fell onto me. She was crying, but I had no idea why. That was when she spoke to me.
“Ahnyx, I am terribly sorry, but I won’t be able to raise you like I had planned. You are to be sent to the Mortal Realm. I am sorry that I won’t be able to know the son that I have birthed, but it is for your safety. I love you.” Suddenly there was a loud commotion and she hurriedly tucked me behind as a man came running into the room.
“Where is he Isa?!” The man bellowed, she tried to calm him down, telling him that whoever he was looking for was alright. She suddenly picked me up and faced me towards the man.
“Ahnyx, this is your father Dimtri. Sorry that he would be able to see you grow into a man, but it is time my beloved child. Goodbye, hope to see you when you’re all grown.” Suddenly she started speaking in a language that was unfamiliar to me and I began to feel drowsy. I heard lyrical sounds and then all was black.
I awoke with a start, sweat coating my body. Today was supposedly my 16th birthday, but I felt no different. I thought back to the dream, but couldn’t understand it. I shrugged off this recognition I seemed to have and then looked at the clock. Shit! I was going to be late. A ninja is never supposed to be late. Just at that thought, I rushed into the bathroom and showered, deciding that if I was going to be late, I should at least make it seem as if it were planned. I tried to forget about the dream, but my thoughts always strayed back to it, as if it were calling to me. I sighed, throwing on my black outfit and my mask, and then stealthily made my way towards the battle grounds.
When I arrived, I snuck into the back of the lineup and acted as if it were normal. I knew that I was caught when my name was called, only I knew it wasn’t for the lineup. I looked towards the so called ‘captain’ and waiting for him to speak.
“Do you have a reason for why you are late?” He asked, trying to intimidate me with his intense stare. I held my ground though, before pulling on one of my lazy grins and speaking.
“Correction, I was ‘fashionably late’ sir. That’s how heroes are.” I smiled broadly, as if I had just come up with the most amazing reason ever. Everyone tried to hold back their snickers, and some face-palmed… which I would call the face-palmers my friends. The Captain decided to let me off the chain, sighing irritably and moving on with the lineup.
I was one of the first ones who left practice today, due to the fact that I wasn’t really there today and so the captain had sent me off to rest. I sighed as I walked back home, wondering what the hell could be wrong with me. Not only did my mind keep going back to the dream, trying to tell my something, but I felt this irresistible pull to leave this place. I pushed back the need though, because this was who I was. I was a ninja, this is what my life revolves around and I wasn’t about to change that. I hurried on back to my room, wanting to sleep off the wariness I had felt all day.
I woke up, once again, with a start. I was covered in sweat, my heart racing from the adrenaline that my dream had given me. But still, the dream made absolutely no sense! Frustrated, I fell back onto my mattress and tried to assess what the hell was going on with me. I needed to hurry up and pull myself together because there was going to be another mission tomorrow for us ninjas and I lived for those missions. A tugging feeling came at my chest once more and I sighed in distress.
I decided that I could make a new path, after some thought. There was no way I would be able to stay here in the condition that I was in at this moment. I would just bring trouble if I went on that mission tomorrow with a clouded mind. So I will sneak off when they are off on their mission and unable to talk me out of leaving. With that thought in mind, I decided to go ahead and start packing.
2:30AM my clock blinked at me. Sighing, I had to forcefully pull myself away from my bed because the ninja had just left not too long ago and I needed to hurry up and move before they turned back around to stop me. I was an important asset to them; something that they didn’t come by nowadays, as they had continuously told me. I had boasted at the attention, but now… I was going to leave this life behind me. Looking around my now empty room, I huffed before I was off towards the boarders.
When I arrived at the gates, I saw one guard there. I cursed when I noticed that it was Ryan. What the hell was he doing here?! I thought he went on the mission. To fill you in on who Ryan is, he was one of my closest friends here that I had made; if anyone could talk me out of leaving it would be him. I cursed once again when I realized what I was going to have to do. I was going to have to lie to him about where I was off to. Sighing once more, guilt filling me, I wiped all emotion from my face.
Cracking a crooked smile, I walked right up to Ryan. He looked up a little startled, which was breaking one of the ninja training rules. I rolled my eyes at that, and looked at him as he stared at me a little confused.
“What?” I asked, he shook his head a little and then smiled back at me.
“Where are you going? If you were wondering where everyone went, they left about 30 minutes ago. You were a little late, which is really unusual for you.” He stared at me suspiciously. I rolled my eyes once again and forced out a chuckle.
“Then I should get a move on, apparently we’re supposed to be gone for a couple days. Why are you with them?” His smile deflated a little; probably because he was missing out on the fun of the mission. With a huff in defeat he spoke once more.
“Greg called out at the last minute for a stupid reason and they needed a real trained ninja to guard the gates. So I got stuck doing this as they all have a bloody fight. This sucks. But yeah, if you want to catch up to them you should hurry up.” He smiled, but he looked a little troubled as he stared at me and then at my suitcase. Not wanting him to question me any further, I nodded and was quickly off. To where? I’m not all too sure. I just knew that I would have to travel far away from here before I could accomplish anything.
Allowing my gut to lead the way, I set out on a new adventure.
