Jennie lay on her bed in her old room and was staring at the ceiling. Three weeks since Kai had stabbed her with his knife, ten days since she had been allowed to go home. And still no sign of her. She hadn't shown up in the hospital, she hadn't phoned - nothing. All Yaya had found on her desk had been a note that she would be out of town for a while and contact her and Nadech in a few weeks.

Why had she left her? How could she just walk out of her life like this, without a single word. Had their love meant so little to her? Or had all been just a way for her to make her feel safe during the time she was responsible for her? No, that couldn't be true she tried to assure herself. It wasn't like that. she had been so loving and it had been in her eyes. People couldn't lie with their eyes, not people like Lisa. But what had happened? What could have caused her to leave her - alone and empty?

Jennie felt lonely and numb during the days, but she was crying through the nights, when the darkness took everything away that was connected to light and life. Did her parents hear her, she wondered.

A knock on her door interrupted her thoughts and Janice entered her room: "Hi honey, how do you feel?"

"Alright," Jennie replied, but her voice sounded lifeless.

"Does it still hurt?," her mother wanted to know.

"No," her daughter answered, touching her wound. It had healed nicely. But it hurts, oh god it hurts so much more somewhere else, she thought. "Mom," she began. "Is it possible to stop loving someone?"

"Would that someone be a pretty handsome, dark-haired PI named Lisa?"

Jennie nodded and she could feel tears welling up in her eyes. "I miss her so, mom. Why did she leave me? How could she just walk out of my life like this?"

Janice took her daughter's hand and looked into her hazel eyes: "I don't know honey. I had such a good feeling, I told her it wasn't her fault and she seemed to believe me. I don't know what happened." She shook her head to show how helpless she felt.

"Hongjun says I shouldn't dwell on it, but I can't. I love her, oh god, I love her so much." She threw her arms around her mother's neck and cried on her shoulder. Janice hugged her tightly. Her heart went out for Jennie, there had been so much pain in her life and all that she wished was for her to be happy.

After a while the crying stopped and Jennie pulled back: "I'm sorry, but it seems I feel like crying all the time these days."

"I understand," her mother replied softly. "It hurts. Oh, I want to kill her for hurting you like this!"

Jennie couldn't help but smile: "You're a great mom, do you know that?"

"It was time you would realise that," Janice joked. "Now, my darling. You should take a nap and later I'll bring you some soup. How does this sound?"

"Great," her daughter said. "And thanks."

Janice stood up and smiled at her. And she made a vow that she would find out what had happened.

It appeared that she didn't have to, because only half an hour later while she was standing in the kitchen making some soup for Jennie the doorbell rang.

Janice was surprised to see Yaya standing there and more so when she saw the angry face of the young woman.

"Mrs. Kim, Can I talk to you? It is quite important, I think," she said with an urgent voice.

"Of course." The older woman stepped back to let her in and pointed towards her living-room. "Please take a seat. Do you want coffee?"

Yaya raised her hand: "No thanks. I just have to talk to you. It won't take long." She sat down and when Janice did the same she began: "This morning I had a call from Georgie, she's Lisa's sister. She's living in New York and it appears that Lisa is with her." She looked at her lap for a moment and then back into Janice 's eyes: "It seems she's miserable and refused to talk about it. But yesterday night she and Gavin, that's Georgie's husband, had a long night and drank a little bit too much. It loosened Lisa's tongue." She paused again and Janice looked at her expectantly.
