Chapter 8:
(Ethan POV) -Albuquerque-
I am not sure who started it but we started to kiss. Soon enough the kiss grew hungrier like we were telling each other everything we could never actually say. Mira started to lean back pulling me down with her. "Mira," I whispered, "we can't." She looked up at me her eyes wide almost vulnerable, "Ethan, I want you to. I want to be with you at least once. Please." I leaned in again deepening our kiss. "Mira..." I started again. "I promise I will never regret it," she said into our kiss and that was enough. We spent the night together in every way imaginable.
I looked over at her again in the moonlight. She was sleeping soundly in my arms. I then saw on the back of her shoulder the burn. I thought back to what she said about her mother. I leaned over and brushed my fingers across it before placing a soft kiss, "Goodnight." I whispered as I continued to hold onto her the rest of the night.
(Damira POV)
The next morning I felt myself wrapped in Ethan's embrace. I held onto him tightly for one last moment. I kissed his hand and smiled to myself but as I looked over at him again that voice that had been telling me to stay away was coming back reminding me about what I would have to do next. I slowly broke away from his grasp, careful not to wake him up. I pulled on all my gear and tightened my ponytail before kneeling down next to him, "I hope you can forgive me."
I then walked over to my horse saddled up and made my way closer to the cave. I made my way out from the tree line. I then heard a horse coming. A man on horseback approached me, "You I am looking for Prince Ethan, have you seen him?" I looked at him and began to recognize him from the castle. "May I know who is asking?" I said looking him up and down. He had the Enchancian crest on his armor but, I wasn't sure. "Look," he sighed, "I have been looking for him all night. From what I heard he was last scene by a stablehand riding off with someone. I also saw the note that he left and the pin that he used to tac it had the Cunningham crest, so I need to know have you seen him or is he in that mountain range." I lifted my chin up, "He is not in the mountain range, but who is asking?" He looked me over, "Damira." "You know my name," I said. "Yeah, Ethan told me about you." Only Ethan would know that name I thought. I looked back towards our campsite, "He is back that way. You won't miss him. Do me a favor though. Tell him to meet me at the North side. He will know what it means." The man nodded his head and rode off.
Finally I was at the mouth of the supply drop off. I made my way through the tunnel to the opening. My clothes were strikingly similar to those of the people who worked within the prison. Who were locked away with the Cunningham's because of their unrelenting support of them and danger they proved themselves to be to the royal family. I remained calm and walked through trying to look like I belonged. It was difficult now because, they all had been trapped together for years. One look, one moment of them taking the time to look at me and they will know who I am. I made my way to the house, not unseen but unnoticed. Now I had to be careful, the house. The house was nearly impossible to sneak around in, but I knew that I could.
I made my way around the house and snuck in through one of the side windows into an abandoned room that was near a staircase. I made my way to the stair case and made my way up. It led me to the main hallway and I knew that where the girls were would be guarded and the tower stairs had a guard watching everything, but sure enough before I could even think up a distraction there was the sound of something shattering down one of the hallways. The guard went to check it out and I ran up the stairs. I made my way up and went over to the gargoyle lifting up the third talon. The key was there. I unlocked each door and then I saw the two princesses.
"P-Please, don't" One of them said. I had no idea which was which anymore. They were both covered in dirt, in their tattered nightgowns. I walked towards them and knelt down, "I am not going to hurt you." One of them rolled over to look at me still standing between me and her sister, "How do I know you are telling the truth?" I looked around, listening to hear if anyone was coming, "I'm a friend of Ethan's. He is waiting for us." This got the girl's attention, "Y-You are lying. Ethan wouldn't send someone, he would come himself." I nodded my head, "Which is exactly why I left when he was asleep. Please come with me." "Why?" she asked. I looked down at her, "Because I am your best chance to get out of here alive." She nodded her head and looked over at her sister. I looked over at her and saw bruises along her face and winced. The princess asked her sister something and she nodded her head. "Ok, we will come with you."
