Chapter 23:
(Amara POV) -Tangu-
I made my way to the throne room where I saw a man standing in the hall with a sheet of paper looking something over. "Excuse me," I started. He jumped in his own skin and turned to face me, "I am truly sorry." He looked at the papers he had dropped and I shook my head going to pick them up, "It is fine. Happens to the best of us." He scrambled down to the floor to pick up the sheets, "Quite. I am meeting my new boss for the first time and I am worried about blundering it up." I nodded my head, "Who is your boss?" I asked gathering up the last of the papers, "Princess Amara." I looked over at him, "Malcolm?" He looked at me confused, "Yes, how did you..." He looked me other again and closed his eyes and began rubbing his glasses along the bridge of his nose, "You are the princess." "Guilty," I said "Great Malcom, making a lovely first impression," he said looking up as he talked to himself. I just gave him a friendly smile, "You'd be surprised how deceiving first impressions can be." I thought about Andrew and what our lives were like before. I stood up and so did he. He was about to go into a bow when I stopped him, "I don't mean to be rude, but we just picked those papers up and I don't want to do it again." He nodded his head, "Yes that makes sense."
I took his appearance in closer as he stood up. He was tall and lean. He had shaggy, brown hair, tanned skin, and big-round glasses that were smack in the middle of his face. "How about we walk to your office and discuss your role as my assistant?" I asked and he nodded his head, "Yes, that is a splendid idea." We walked to his office and he seemed decent enough. We agreed that he would arrange my schedule within the castle, with my advisement, and that he would sit in on meetings that I could not taking notes to give to me. We ironed out a few more areas and we were both satisfied with the arrangement. "Well I will leave you to get settled in," I said leaving him in his office. "Princess Amara," he called out. I turned back around, "Yes?" He just looked down at his books, "Just wanted to say that you made a lovely first impression." I nodded my head, "Thank you, I look forward to working with you." I turned and left the room.
He seemed decent enough but, I still didn't like how he was just assigned to me. I walked to my room and I saw a note waiting for me on my bed. I picked it up and knew it was from Andrew. I opened the sealed and laid on my bed:
Amara,
I had just received your note after finishing one saying that I couldn't see you tonight. Our timing has always been amazing. Anyway I was hoping that you wouldn't mind, but I wanted to bring Ella to spend time with us tomorrow. I know that we don't have much time left before we go back to school, but Ella doesn't have much time with me either and Dad was sent on a mission today and she is a little spooked.
Sorry... not trying to guilt trip you. If you don't want to spend time with Ella that is alright too, I can figure something else out... No that wasn't meant to guilt trip you either. I really can't make a point can I?
Hope to see you tomorrow and let me know if Ella can come,Andrew :)
I smiled at the note. His nervous hand writing and tone was adorable. I had no problem spending time with Ella, in fact I loved it. I brushed my fingers over his signature smiley face and smiled to myself. He said that he always wanted to send me a smile. It was incredibly corny but weirdly effective. He never wrote, or really used, our titles in his notes, partly because we grew up together and partly because he didn't really care about them. I placed the note down next to my bed and became more excited to see him.
(Andrew POV) -Enchancia-
The next morning I woke up and went down to breakfast with Ella. Mom came in carrying a letter, "Ella you have mail." Ella excitedly looked up at the note Mom had in her hand. Ella took it and rubbed her thumb over the seal, "It is from Tangu." Amara, I thought. "Amara invited me over today," she said smiling. Knew it, I thought. "So I guess we are both going to Tangu today." She looked over the invitation again, "No, she only invited me." My mouth went into a fine line, "What?" She looked at it some more, "Oh but I can bring a guest!" A guest. Amara, what had you done. Ella brought a hand to her chin, "Who to bring? Who to bring?" "Mom," I turned to her but she shrugged, "This is all on Amara." I closed my eyes and let out a breath, "Ella can I come with you?" She bobbed her head from side to side, "Ok, but only because you promised to hang out with me today." I smiled, "I wouldn't expect any other reason."
