Chapter 3

(Ethan POV) -Albuquerque-

It was late that night but I knew I needed to talk. I knocked on my parents' door and waited. Mom came and opened the door, "Ethan what's wrong baby?" The concern evident in her voice. "I-I need to talk to Dad," I said. She gave me a smile, "I'll go get him." She closed the door and a moment later Dad was at the door, "Is everything alright Ethan?" I looked down at the ground not wanting to make eye contact, "I need some advice. I think I might have done something stupid." He sighed before turning back to Mom, "We are going to walk and talk. I'll meet with you later." I heard a faint ok before Dad closed the door and we began walking the hallways, "So what did you do?" "I don't know," I said and shrugged. He nodded his head, "Alright who is she? Is it one of your female cousins? Am I going to get an angry letter from your Aunt Amber tomorrow?" I cocked my head, "How did you know it was a girl?" He turned to face me, "Only woman can make you feel like you did something stupid without a clue as to what it was. It is one of their many talents and believe me, it never gets easier. So which female relative? Please don't be Della or Lorelei."

I laughed a little at how scared he was about Aunt Amber, "No it wasn't Della or Lorelei." He sighed, "Alright so was it Ella? Amara?" I shook my head, "No. Not them." "Your Aunts?" He asked. I shook my head. "Your sisters." "No" He turned to face me, "It wasn't your Mom right?" "No," I said again. "Then who..." he started and I stopped walking and was looking at the ground, "Oh, so it was a girl." "Yes," I said. "One you aren't in any way related to." "Yes," I said again. "Friend?" He asked. "Kind of." He nodded again, "Do you like her?" I went quiet again. He was nodding his head, "Alright why don't you tell me what happened?" "Well we were talking and having a good time when she told me that I should go back in the castle before people start worrying. I asked if anyone was going to be worried about her and she said that no one was. I said that I was worried when I didn't see her or hear from her for a few days. We got quiet. My hand was on hers and I thought that we were both feeling the same way. Then her face changed she pulled her hand away and left." Dad just listened quietly as I talked.

"Did she say anything when she left?" Dad asked. "Just that I should go inside and that she had to go," I said. Dad nodded his head. "Why do you think you did something stupid?" I shrugged, "I'm the guy it is always my fault." Dad laughed a little at that, "Usually yes, but it sounds like there is other stuff going on. When you two were talking was the conversation primarily about your life or hers?" I thought back to it, "We talked about her a little bit, but never for long and never anything of substance. I know that she is a squire and that her parents aren't around." "Did she ever try to change the conversation quickly when you were talking about her?" I thought back, "Yeah she did." He put a hand on my shoulder, "I don't think that you did anything stupid. I think that there might be stuff going on that you don't know about." I looked up at him, "So what do I do?" "Give her time, be there in any way you can and when she is ready, she will tell you." I looked up at him, "Is that what you do when you do stupid things with Mom?" He started laughing, "When I do something stupid with your Mom she lets me know," He sighed, "She lets me know." It was my turn to laugh. "So what is her name?" He asked. "Damira." I said. He nodded, "Well when you figure everything out I'd like to meet her and I know your Mom would love to as well." I nodded and we approached my door, "Did I help at all?" He asked. I nodded my head, "Yeah. Thanks Dad." He went to walk away but I quietly spoke, "Dad?"

He turned to face me. "Sorry if I got you in trouble with Mom the other night," He just shook his head. "I got myself in trouble with your Mom. No one else. Besides we worked it out, she still made me sleep in the guest room though but we are moving past that." I laughed and so did Dad. I thought about giving him a hug for a moment but didn't. It just wasn't our relationship, "Well I better get some sleep. I have practice tomorrow." Dad nodded, "Yeah your Mom is waiting for me. Good night." "Night and Thanks," I went into my room and sat on my bed. My mind still stayed on Damira but, I couldn't help but wonder what was going on. Soon exhaustion overtook me and I feel asleep.
