Chapter 28:

(Amara POV) -Tangu-

I hadn't heard anything from Andrew since I sent him the letter, but I did get an invite to the Enchancia Holiday Party and his family was always in attendance. I hadn't heard from Ella in a while either and this felt like the perfect opportunity to get some intel. I heard a knock on my door, "Come in." I turned and saw Mom walking in with a ball gown. "Mom, it is beautiful," I said walking over to her.

"Well I figured that we only have so many occasions where incorporating Ice Lilies is festive and not strange. Besides you and your father will never be used to the cold." "Because we grew up in the deserts of Tangu," I said. She smirked over her shoulder, "And that is not my fault." "Nor ours," I added. It was our usual holiday conversation and she was right, because as soon as Dad and I would step out of the carriage we would be freezing until we reached the ballroom.

I looked over the gown and she had attached a veil as well, "You know you will go out of business if you keep making these amazing dresses for me and never make me pay." She laughed, "Trust me the number of dresses I designed for this Party I could afford it." I nodded my head and turned to my mirror.

"Amara, are you alright?" "Of course, Mom. I'm just tired." I said forcing out a smile. She pulled a chair next to my vanity, "No you are not. I know you and I know that something is on your mind. So tell me." I looked over at her, "I haven't heard from Andrew in a while." "How long is a while?" "Almost, 2 months," I said. She nodded her head as she listened, "Well it might be difficult for him to write to you while he was at Chivalry Hall, but he will probably be there tonight."

"Yeah, that is what I am hoping. It's just that before he visited he would write me back at least once a week and now I haven't heard much of anything. I just want to talk to him," I said looking at my lap. "It sounds like you two need it, but I am sure that there is something else going on." She held my hand "And if I know one way to get his attention for that discussion it is you in your new, gorgeous ballgown." I smiled as she wrapped her arm around me.

"Don't take too long. We have to leave in an hour." I smiled, "But I have plenty of time knowing Dad." She smiled, "Not when I told him we have to leave in 10 minutes." I gasped, "You told Dad the wrong time." She shrugged as she walked towards the door, "It took almost 17 years of marriage but I have finally figured out a way to get your Dad out of the house on time." I gave her a look, "You really are a genius." "I'm surprised it took you this long to figure out. One hour, change please," she smiled as she left.

I got ready, fairly quickly and met Mom in the Hall. I looked at the clock and we still had 15 minutes, "Is Dad going to be late after you told him we had to leave almost an hour earlier?" I asked. She shook her head, "15 minutes is still a lifetime for your Dad. I am sure I got the timing right this time." "This time?" I asked. "Yes, I have been selecting random events to tell him the wrong time for and I am pretty sure I finally got it right." I laughed but not a moment later we heard a door fly open and Dad come running down the stairs, "Hildy I am so sorry... You are not mad at me." She shook her head, "No, lets go." She went to walk out to the carriage and Dad turned to me, "Does she not care if we are late anymore?" I shrugged, "I don't know Dad, but I don't think it is wise to keep her waiting any longer." He swiftly nodded his head and we made our way outside.

When we arrived at the Party Aunt Amber and Uncle Desmond were greeting guests, "Zandar, Hildegard you are on time!" Aunt Amber said. Dad turned to Mom, "What time were we supposed to leave?" She opened her fan and hid her smirk, "I don't quite recall." She made her way into the ballroom and Dad followed her as I laughed. I turned to Amber and Desmond and curtsied, "Your Majesties." "Your Mom finally got him to go at the right time," Uncle Desmond said. "She told him we had to leave an hour earlier than we had to." "Ah, that explains it. Well go enjoy the Party." "Thank you." I walked inside.
