"Alright. I can understand." Rose stooped forward and balanced her arms on the table in between. "Anyhow who is that guy came forward to marry your daughter? That guy to whose family that tope belongs?"
"No, he is another guy." Manohar said. "He is the poor person among those three guys and living with his mother in a small house in our village. The fathers of the other two guys made him agree to marry our daughter besides providing sufficient means to our family."
Babitha removed her hands from her face and looked into the face of Rose. "In fact among those three, he is little better. He did not want to rape my girl but the other two forced him to do that to her."
"What happened next? Was your girl in a position to come home all by herself after that gang-rape?"
"No, of course." Babitha said "One of her friends who was with her in the mango tope on that day suddenly wanted to ask something to our daughter and she phoned to her repeatedly. It rang, rang, rang but my daughter did not attend the call. Then that friend came to our home and learnt that my daughter did not come home yet. It has almost become night and we were also feeling anxious as she did not come home. When we along with her and two of her other friends who accompanied us on the way went into that house in the mango tope, those bastards were still having her. She fainted and not in her senses but those bastards were continuing what they had been doing till that moment."
"Did you people try to catch those bastards and hand them over to the police?"
"We tried but they out-forced us and ran away from that place. Then we took our daughter to a doctor and the friends of our girls agreed to give evidence of that gang-rape on our daughter."
"But when you try to lodge a complaint, the fathers' of the guys came to you and compromised you with marriage of your daughter with one of those guys and sufficient money to look after your family necessities." Once again Rose became angry.
"You were not in my place, if you were you can understand." Babitha hung her head.
"Of course, I understood." Rose said. "But I just cannot digest a thing like that happening on a girl and her being compromised so. I am not feeling angry on you Babitha, I am just feeling pity. I cannot understand how much of distress you have been undergoing now as you have to make your daughter to live with him like that."
"Thank you doctor, thank you very much!" suddenly Babitha looked into the face Rose and said. "You understood me. We have come here with lot of hopes on you. If you can get a change in our daughter's mind, we shall ever be grateful to you."
"To be frank...." Rose wanted to say something but before that Manohar said. "That guy who married our daughter is not very much bad. He did it like that only because those other two. He has been feeling very much regret and wants to look our daughter all her life nicely."
Rose sighed heavily and leaned back in the chair again. "Your daughter herself volunteered to marry that guy as it would a solution to all your problems. But she just cannot forget what those three did to her and it has become very much unbearable to her to live along with one of those guys who gang-raped her. Anyhow what is her present reaction? Is she is saying that she does not want to live along with him? Is she is asking now to file a complaint against those now?"
"She is not saying anything particular now but sometimes she is becoming very much violent. Whenever she becomes violent she does not know what she is doing. We just cannot understand what she exactly wants now." With a confusing and distressing expression in his face Manohar said.
"It is just because she herself does not know what to do exactly now. On one side she is feeling too much anger on those three rogues and on the other side she is thinking about her family. It is just like binding her tight after a compromise like that with those rogues and their fathers. I can understand her situation quite well now."
