Hikari had been through many unusual situations in her life. She was working with the world's greatest detective, after all. But, never had she expected to sit across a god of death.

She didn't quite like this one. She'd expected them to be bursting with narcissism and filled with unempathetic humour. Probably what she found the most fascinating.

And yet, here she was, attempting to interrogate the blatantly boring and cold creature.

It made every muscle in her body tremble half with curiosity, half with fear.

The thirteen day rule was a big setback. But, there was no time to test it out. Hikari never did like to think about the future. For now, her key motive was to either find some kind of undisclosed information, or better yet, find a loophole in the notebook.

"So, is it possible that one of these rules are fake?" she started, getting an almost expected 'I don't know'.

'So that's how it's going to be.'

It had been pretty neutral from the start. That meant that it was probably trying to protect the two Kiras. That was the only logical explanation.

Hikari mentally prepared herself for hearing the raven's sarcastic reprimandation later.

"Listen to me. If you don't give me a proper answer, I won't hesitate to kill Yagami and Amane. Kill me if you want to, but this whole conversation is bugged. That could only prove that you're siding with them, and that they're Kira."

She could almost sense the Shinigami's dilated pupils widen with surprise. Despite the boldness of her statement, the girl still couldn't dare to look the reaper in the eye.

Rem's indirect fumbling got her some much needed confidence.

After waiting in silence for as much as five minutes, impatience began to conquer the woman. Even the effects of the caffeine from the previous night had began to wear off.

"Shinigami, lying won't do anything. If you tell me your motives, we could make an appropriate negotiation."

The god parted her lips, as if contemplating whether to reveal her true intentions or not. In the end, she knew Light would bring Misa nothing but despair.

"It's... not Light Yagami I'm trying to protect. It's Misa."

Hikari smiled, probably the most genuinely she'd ever smiled.

"So... I'm guessing the thirteen day rule is fake?"

It nodded.

"Wait. Do you own a notebook yourself?" she questioned.

Rem hesitated, before nodding her head in the slightest.

"And... mind telling me how the Second Kira could kill without a name?" she continued.

"We have special eyes. Misa traded half her lifespan for them."

"Half her lifespan... damn, that girl is committed. Anyway, I think I've got the solution," she stated, as confidently as she could.

"And what might that be?"

"You kill Yagami, and I'll give Amane immunity."

She'd said it. It would be a lie to say that Hikari was empathetic. Well, maybe she was. But she'd come to the rushed conclusion that the world worked in a way where people have to be selfish.

This was the best thing for Misa. Rem knew it was. She knew she had to die anyway, but on whose side?

"If I do that, I will die."

"And the girl?"

"She will live. I can remove her memories of the notebook, even the eyes will go."

Hikari sighed.

"Are you ready to... do that?"

The Shinigami let out a breath.

"Yes."

Her head was spinning from excitement. Each cell of her being bursting with joy. She couldn't stop smiling.

"When am I supposed to do it?"

She thought about it. The sooner it was, the better, but she had to give the shinigami some freedom, after all, it was the god's last few days.

"When can you?"

"I need 2 days."

Hikari nodded. The second. That was when they'd finally end this absurdly complicated game of wits.

"Just out of curiosity, how do Shinigami excrete?"

No reply.

"I see, not a talker. Alright then, it's settled."

The god disappeared through the wall, without saying a word.

She wasn't surprised to see L burst through the door with an almost scary smirk on his face.

"Great job, Hikari-chan."

She rolled her eyes, though, she could barely express any form of annoyance on her face at the moment.

"Stop calling me that," she whined.

She wanted to proclaim victory so bad. But she couldn't. This wasn't going to be over until she could see Light's corpse. She dreaded that moment, the look on the chief's face. But, she couldn't help but quiver with the anticipation of what was to come.
