The sun illuminated Kira's grave, surrounded by unsuspecting classmates and inconsolable family.

Hikari stood at the side, along with L, both watching with gazes as cold as their consciences. Or so they forced themselves to believe.

It pained her. It pained her to watch the family suffering. She was sick of her mind forcing her body into apathy.

As the formalities ended, Hikari hesitated to leave them alone. Though, one bittersweet glare from Souichiro managed to convince her otherwise.

She got into the ridiculously expensive limousine after the raven, and couldn't help but slam the door behind her. The car ride back to the building was silent, both contemplating whether to console the other.

They returned to their seats, joining the other members. She stared at the screen. They would have to work for a while, until the task force could believe that Kira'd simply retired.

Somehow, the task force still hadn't lost heart, Matsuda acting as some kind of cheerleader for them to catch Kira. Everybody tried using their tears as fuel, but at the end, they were just salt and water.

"Ryuzaki!"

He turned to look at her, his face showing the slightest bit of curiosity.

"N-nothing. Sorry."

He seemed to have caught on, staying quite and ignoring the mental tension she was intensely radiating. Even the chief would have noticed it beyond his grief.

Eventually, the Task Force went home, leaving the two alone.

"L, I need to talk to you."

He turned towards her.

"I figured as much."

She sighed heavily.

"Kira's... back."

His eyes widened.

"The power of the notebook can be transferred, but the question is, who transferred it?" Hikari stated, talking more to herself than him, staring at the floor as she tried to focus.

"No."

She looked back at him.

"Huh?"

L bit the nail of his thumb.

"The power has not been transferred. That is the problem."

'What is he-?'

"That goddamn Shinigami!"

Was it all for nothing? Did she get her hands red for nothing? If Misa still had her memories, she was going to meet L again someday, and... kill him.

"What now?" she asked, her voice breathy.

"I'll stay inside 24/7. I do not enjoy the outdoors much anyway."

Hikari scoffed.

"L, you're a human, not some dog who you instruct to not go out."

"I am unable to find a more effective solution."

"I've already gotten my hands dirty. So why not..."

His eyes intensified, staring into hers with an almost dominant gaze.

"I am not permitting you to have yet another death on your conscience," he said coldly.

"Its my life. Arrest me, if you want to."

She left, desperately wanting space to make a decision.

Deep within the precious mind of the raven, was undoubtedly a desire to preserve her humanity. Only if it wasn't so fragile already.
