4 all u simps out there :) (couldnt be me)
It was 11 pm. Usually, Hikari didn't really get down to sleeping until 4 or 5, sometimes even six. Not because she didn't want to, because the absurd amounts of coffee she consumed prevented her from even being able to close her eyes.
So, she got up to make herself yet another cup of black coffee. It was almost like a drug for her. wasn't like the excitement would let her sleep anyway.
As Hikari entered the kitchen, she saw a packet of Earl-Grey tea lying on the counter. It was almost funny how the three of them had to have some source of adrenaline which prevented their sleep.
Feeling a sudden, uncalled for empathy for the old man, she decided to make him a cup to soothe his mind. Atleast, that's what old people called it.
And there, she found herself standing at the doorway of Watari's room. It was a small room, with many monitors placed neatly across the desk.
"Ah, Hikari-chan."
She clenched her jaw to prevent the urge of rolling her eyes back to her mind, smiling as a poor attempt to cover it up. Like father, like son.
"I got you some tea."
Hikari placed the cup on probably the only free area on the desk, glancing at the computer screen as she did.
"What're you working on there?" she asked, noticing the picture of L.
"Just some documentation."
"Damn, aliases even in official documents?"
"It is L."
"Right. What? Did the great detective develop an intolerance?"
Watari chuckled.
"No. I'll need to update his age for the Orphanage data. You know how it is."
'Update his age? That means--'
She took a quick glance at the edge of the computer screen. It was the night of the 30th.
'Oh, right!'
Hikari mentally rebuked herself for her forgetfulness, and smiled at the man sitting before her, who seemed nonchalant to anything other than the cup of tea he'd started to drink eagerly.
"I'll be heading out for a while," Hikari declared, before practically running outside the building, abandoning the cup of coffee she'd left on the kitchen counter.
Both of them were never ones to go big on birthdays. The most they'd ever done were on hers, when her parents called all the kids in the neighbourhood for the celebration. How she hated it.
'After all, he will complete a quarter of a century.'
Hikari patrolled the streets of Tokyo, finally settling on a big, round strawberry cake, a pair of socks to tease him, and a 3 volume bundle of Akazukin Chacha, a manga he ridiculously loved.
She walked back into the building, not surprised to see him still working. She checked the time. 11:58, just two minutes.
"Don't tell me you're still working on Kira," she said as she poorly attempted to hide the 'gifts' behind her back, sighing as he didn't turn to look at her.
"No, I'm just reviewing some new cases."
She stood there in silence.
11:59...
Hikari proceeded to sit beside him, still trying to hide the goods.
"I must say, is cruel of you to be depriving me of cake for two whole minutes," L said, sounding almost irritated.
