Hikari had always thought she was crazy somewhere inside of her heart, but, never had the girl expected to consider using a killer notebook.
'I've already killed two people, what's one more?'
What was one more? Neither an establishment of her ruthless nature, nor a move that would potentially make her an actual murderer. It was a step closer to ensuring the safety of the World's Greatest Detective, no, it was the last step.
With hands as unwavering as her determination, the girl wrote down the model's name, chest instantly feeling like she'd just bench-pressed a thousand pounds.
'Misa Amane, suicide, 12:30 pm, jumps off Tokyo Tower.'
And just like that, all the Kiras were dead.
The raven instantly understood what she'd done. Trying his best not to lose his composure, he walked over to her room, an attempt to confront her.
Hikari was prepared. Not bothering to look up at him when he came, she continued to stare at the name she'd written down, silently hoping that would erase it.
"I would like an explanation," L ordered, inching closer as if daring her not to meet his eyes.
"I don't think one is necessary. We both know what I did, and why I did it."
"I doubt that will suffice."
"What do you expect me to say? Oh, I'm so sorry did that. I can't see myself in the mirror ever again! No, I should just burn my face, so I don't have to look at it again! Forget that, I should just burn myself! That's perfect! After that, take the ashes back to England and show my parents the remnants of the fucking monster I've become!"
He stared at her silently, his lips parted with something resembling understanding.
"Uh... sorry..." Hikari added, acknowledging his futile attempt at comfort.
"I am simply trying to find a logical soluti---."
"To what?" she interrupted sharply, "Everything is fine now. All the Kiras are dead, aren't they? You're alive, aren't you? There is no problem. Just move on now."
It seemed like she was talking more to herself than him.
"I have no problems. You are the one who has killed two people," he replied blankly
Despite appreciating his straightforwardness, her anger grew.
"Can we just end this conversation?"
"Not until you can face the truth."
"What truth? What-- you're just going around in circles right now, and it's driving me crazy."
"The truth that this has affected you."
"Yes, it has. So? I'll only be upset if I tell myself I am. What's the point in unnecessary grief?"
"It is not unnecessary."
"Tch. Just don't quit, do you? Idiot..."
She ruffled his hair, not being able to face the radicality of her actions. She'd killed three people, all for one person.
"Tell me. Tell me exactly what is in your mind right now."
Hikari sighed, shrugging. "It feels like shit. I think I'd be better off dead," she said bluntly.
"I... see..."
She smiled slightly. "But... I don't regret a single damn thing, because you're alive. Everything else can go to hell."
"I'd... rather die than witness this."
Hikari clenched her teeth, but her smirk widened bitterly. "I'd rather keep you alive in suffering than see you die."
"That is... mutual..."
"We both won, didn't we? Why waste time moping around? It has scarred us, but... we'll get over it, eventually."
"What... what do people usually do to comfort someone?"
"Maybe... hugging or muttering reassurances or something, I guess."
"Do you want me to do that?"
"No. Whatever you're doing right now, it's enough. Looking at your scary-ass face is enough."
"I take that as a compliment."
"It was meant as one. Now, I'm gonna go get some coffee... Don't overheat your brain too much!"
With that, she pretty much ran away, leaving the detective alone.
He stood there, even his mind barely being able to process the events of the last few days.
The turmoil in his mind made him grip at the sleeves of his sweater tightly. It almost awed him, how well Hikari could move forward.
He turned towards the wall, blanky staring at the surface, soon to be met by the face of the very Shinigami which had killed his enemy.
"L Lawliet, we need to talk..."
