Hikari took her time to try and come to a decision. Eventually, she couldn't focus. So, she turned to the one thing which helped her concentrate her thoughts--coffee.
Walking into the kitchen, she encountered the main work area, and to her surprise, the insomniac wasn't there. Furrowing her eyebrows in confusion, she abandoned her coffee yet again, and decided to confront the man.
His chair was tilted to the side, neatly fallen to the floor, and she could see a glimpse of that black, disheveled hair.
She raised an eyebrow, calling his name cautiously.
"L?"
No reply. She walked closer, until she could see the big owly eyes shut tight.
Hikari shook his arm slightly, and yet, no response.
"Wake up," she demanded.
Hikari called him again, but still got no reply. Now shaking him more, a sliver of anxiety began to come over her.
She closed her eyes, trying to collect herself.
As she looked back at him, her eyes were met by big, almost bloodshot black pools and a slight smile.
"AAH!"
The poor girl retaliated backwards, and could feel the big metal desk crush her back. Letting out a slight wince, she heard the man stand up, holding out a pale hand to help her up, one which she sheepishly accepted.
"Holy shit, L! This building has atleast 45 beds, and the only spot you find is a chair?!"
"I find it rather comfortable."
She sighed.
"You'll break your back. I don't need you slouching anymore than you already do."
"Could it be that Hikari-chan is concerned about me?"
She scoffed.
"No, not at all. I'm murdering an eighteen year old for fun. Stop throwing tantrums and go to a bed. People are gonna think you've died."
The man simply put his hands in his pockets and ascended the staircase.
Hikari left for the kitchen, but couldn't help but chuckle at his habits. Seeing him sleep was a rather interesting sight.
It was over 3 a.m, when the girl burst through the door, face screwed up. He opened his eyes almost automatically, and got out of the bed, looking the slightest bit concerned.
"What's wrong?" he asked in his monotone, laced with a slight anticipation.
She let out a breath.
"Sayu killed herself," Hikari spoke in a forcedly firm voice.
His eyebrows rose in the slightest, taking in the information.
"How?" he asked.
"Helium."
"It was planned, wasn't it?" Hikari questioned, almost knowing the answer.
He nodded.
"I'll call Watari. Can you stay on the phone with her parents?"
Both his tone and his words, were contrary to the orders and statements he used to make. She never even thought he was capable of something like that.
"Ok."
On the speakers of the phone, all she heard was the cries of Sachiko Yagami, and the fed up voice of the chief. The man was honestly unbelievable sometimes. He was comforting her even in his situation. She would've laughed at it, if not for the circumstances.
