"Julie? Come out. I have a truck waiting for you." Walden called out into an empty house as he removed his lab coat and shoes. He looked around the house for a while, taking note of how quiet it was. Like a ghost was the only resident.

"Walden?" A brooding and echoey voice called from the dark hallway. "Is that you?" Black claws dug into the wall, footsteps growing closer.

Without another thought, Walden froze. He took a step back. "Shit." He hissed under his breath. From the corner of the hallway, a giant head peeked out. Black and running like a waterfall of ink was Julianne.

The flower that acted as her face opened, revealing dozens of rows of needle-like teeth. "I'm hungry, Walden." Her voice was like an animalistic roar as she crawled eerily towards him. She was too large to stand straight and that unsettled Walden. "So very hungry.."

Fear shook him to his very core. It ate him alive. He rarely experienced fear like this, only feeling such terror when his father was still around to raise him. Fear he felt whenever [Name] dragged him into another foolish adventure through the void.

But this fear was something new. Something different. Something so raw and carnal that no matter how much he tried, he couldn't escape it.

He had never seen the demoness. He had only heard of her, heard of her horrors and how she'd lay waste to anyone she deemed unworthy. He was terrified enough by her corrupted effects on Julie, but seeing her was entirely different.

"What's the matter, Dr. Darling?" She spoke in a mocking, nearly sultry tone. "Are you scared?" She chuckled before scattering to him in a mere instant. Her speed was unheard of. Her hands locked around his throat. Her jaw opened at an almost supernatural width.

Walden wasted no time before breaking her grip, rushing past her, and taking a knife from the kitchen. He held it out to Julianne. She didn't bother even glancing at it. "You mean to kill me? You think no one's ever tried that before?" Her voice was smoky. She almost sounded like an echo.

Her voice didn't come from her mouth. It rang around the house like speakers surrounding the area. Her jaw opened wider, revealing a bloody head inside. Julie.

Her pink skin was completely red, her blonde curls drenched in blood. Her eyes were rolled back as if she were eternally looking up at the Heavens. As if any god could save her from her state.

Her right horn was snapped off completely. Her mouth was hung open, blood and organs peeling out with her tongue like vomit.

Walden knew it wasn't real. He had to know it wasn't real. This was the demoness' attempt at getting in his head, and he couldn't allow it. "I know you're smart enough to know that your wife is alive and well, trapped inside of me like a bird in a cage." She shut her teeth-filled mouth with a wide grin.

"That will be your outcome, however, if you decide to gut me." She narrowed those beady eyes of hers. "Or, well, the mother of your child."

Walden wondered what Julie would've wanted him to do. He imagined what she'd say about ten years ago. "Kill me, Walden. No matter what."

But that was ten years ago. Today, she would've said something along the lines of "I'll take care of it myself." Just to spite him.

"You've exhausted her, Walden. So much so that she gave in to sacrificing herself." She leaned in close to Walden. Close enough that his heart ached in anger. "How does it feel? Unless you don't feel anything at all like you usually do?"

"Let her go." A voice shouted from the door, the sound of wet boots hitting the floor emitting. Walden and Julianne both turned to find the source.

[Name] stood there, soaked and holding a tree trimmer in her hand. She walked through the house and stopped once she was right in front of the demoness. She stared down at [Name].

"The star of the show. The object of Julie's attraction." Her hollow voice ran dry as her nails grazed [Name]'s shoulder. [Name] ignored her comment, knowing it wouldn't help her. "If you won't let Julie out, then let me in."

For the first time in her long existence, Julianne was speechless. She had never consumed two bodies at once. "Fine."

Walden's eyes went wide. His arm stretched out to grab [Name] and hold her back from the demoness. A part of him was still that scared little boy trying to keep her out of trouble.

But no. Julianne had wrapped her inky arms around [Name], pressing her flowery face against [Name]'s. The petals wrapped around her face, trapping her like a Venus Flytrap. Coughing out a final breath of mortal air, [Name] succumbed to the enveloping danger.

[Name] didn't know what it would feel like to be trapped in a body that wasn't hers. It felt like floating, but more like that point when you're scared to sink.

"Breathe." She reminded herself over and over again before she opened her eyes. Nothing but pitch blackness surrounded her. The only thing that told her she was on solid ground was the fact that thousands of those demonic rainbow flowers bloomed around her.

This was the garden.

"[Name]? Breathe, darling." She blinked wearily until a familiar face came into her blurry vision. But her eyesight would never be too blurry to see how beautiful Julie was. "You're okay..." She smiled up at the goddess-like woman sitting over her.

Seeing her, knowing she was okay in some form, made her anger and hurt disappear. Even if it was for a second. She lifted her hand up to brush Julie's cheek. Feeling her warm skin in the palm of her hand felt heavenly. Like a corpse seeing life.

"You're really okay." Her other hand joined her other cheek. Like a dopey child on Christmas Day,  [Name] was smiling brighter than the brightest star when she saw her. Julie's lips parted as a sorrowful expression invaded her face.

"You shouldn't be down here...what are you doing?" Her shoulders dropped. [Name]'s expression faded away with her heart. "I came to save you. And...and even if I can't, I had to make sure you were alright." She sat up on her knees, cupping Julie's hands in her own.

Julie shook her head. "No...no, you shouldn't have done that." She shook her head more rapidly with each word she said. "I did this..this is not your burden, [Name]!" She shouted, grabbing [Name]'s hands. [Name] just sat there in stunned silence.

"Julie...I followed you into the pit of a demon. I'm not leaving without you." She shook her head, holding Julie's hands with a tight grip. She held her soft hands to her chest.

"I don't know who this demon is, or what deal you two have. But I don't care. I'll follow you to the ends of the earth to make sure you make it. I promise." She spoke with a breaking passion in her heart. She'd do whatever it would take to keep her promise to Julie.

"Let me make you joyful again."
