"Finally." [Name] sighed happily as she settled into her cushioned stool. She settled in front of her workbench, putting her welding helmet over her head. This was better than any office.

She liked the thick smell of pine and smoke that filled the room. The way it always smelled new in here, always smelling that paint and rust all at once despite the fact that this was one of the more neglected departments.

They were in control of all of the machines, the Grinder, the labs, the restraints on any testing subjects, all of it. [Name] enjoyed being the assistant manager for certain. But she liked being at her workbench more. When she accidentally cut her fingers and slowly developed carpal tunnel.

"[Name] Home?" A quick and sharp voice spoke from above. She looked up at the woman in her pantsuit, the ears on her head twitching like she was swatting flies. Carmella Sennight, assistant head scientist.

"Oh. Hi, Dr. Sennight. Everything alright?" She pushed her helmet back over her forehead. Carmella showed little reaction when she shrugged. "Walden's daughter will be coming in today. We need to make sure the Grinder is not going to...malfunction."

[Name] nodded and grabbed her toolbox. Finally.

She leaned up under the Grinder's control dashboard, making sure everything was up to regulation. She twisted wires and bolts to ensure they were tight and neat. She oiled up the gears to make sure they moved smoothly.

She pulled herself out from under the dashboard and pulled the headlight off of her head. She wiped the sweat from her brow as she set it to the side. Giving Carmella a thumbs up, she spoke. "Everything should be up to regulation."

Carmella gave a nod. "Good. You're dismissed."

[Name] was a little disappointed that she couldn't do more, but it didn't matter much to her. More time for other projects that have been put on hold because of Frank's marriage.

The trip back to the lowest department would be long. Several flights of stairs, dozens of elevator trips, and almost twenty minutes worth of water breaks just to make it to the engineering department.

She toted the toolbox at her side like it was a wandering toddler. Scientists in pristine white coats passed by, dragging the smell of a dentist's office with them. But coming towards them were two familiar figures.

The most noticeable was Walden, his hands tied behind his back as he approached [Name]. She paused, pulling her glove off to shake his hand. "Dr. Darling." She spoke like every other stranger spoke to him. Like they never knew each other.

He ignored her hand. When she saw this, it promptly returned to her side. She cleared her throat awkwardly. The person beside him was a woman with pale blue skin and white hair in a short bob. She held no expression.

"Axine." She shot his glare over at the woman. His assistant. She simply hummed out an acknowledgment. "Return to my office. Keep an eye on Ophelia and Julie." He demanded coldly. Returning to his cold behavior, she nodded and walked off.
