This was a mistake, Luke.

Julie, cami We are ready to rock this dance," Reggie says, bursting in, "which is clearly over." Cami and Julie stand up, and I cross my arms and say, "Yeah, cause you're three hours late!" "Look, we are... so, so sorry that we bailed on you." I say, walking to Cami, "Yeah, time got away from us," Alex adds. "Just please tell me it had nothing to do with you getting back at my dad," she says, stepping forward. "Whatttt...nooo," Reggie says. "Seriously? You're lying to me?"

"Okay, look, it was something we needed to do." She laughs and shakes my head. "Yeah, you said that before." She starts walking away. "But we'll do whatever it takes. We'll play at the next school." Julie interrupts, "What? Another dance where you can bail on us and make us look like fools?"

"Save it. You know what really stinks? Our songs were good." cami add.

"and! All three of you knew what I've been through and how tough it's been for me to play, and then you did this? Bands don't do that to each other. Friends don't do that to each other." Julie says, starting to cry, "This was a mistake," Cami says, crying. "You mean the dance, right?" I say, looking at Cami. "No joining a bad with you," Julie says.

"Actually, I'm friends with you," I say, running away.

"Julie!" reggie yells

"cami! Wait," I yell after her.

"Well, if... if they're not in the band, then..." Reggie says quickly.

"There is no band." I say, turning to face them.

Then something shoots through, causing us pain. We groan and crouch, holding out our stomachs.

"What was that?" Alex says.

"It felt like we were dying all over again," Reggie adds.

"How can we die if we're already dead?" ..

the next day.

I go to their school, wanting to talk to Cami. We had just started connecting; this is going to ruin it, and I don't want that to happen. "Cami," I whisper, and she turns around to see me standing there. "No," she says, walking away. "Wait, please!" I follow her. "Luke, I don't want to talk," she whispers. pulling me into an empty classroom. "what"

"Cami, listen, I'm really sorry about everything with you, dad! But you have to realise he stole my music." She stops me. You died!" I look up. "Yeah, and?" she laughs. "Are you aware you were going to come back and try to publish the music as a ghost?" I shake my head. "So my dad publishing the music isn't that big of a deal, Luke! You were dead." I look at her. Is that really what you think?" he says. "Yeah!" he says. "This was a mistake, Luke," she finishes wiping her tears, "fine!" Then I poof away.

I arrive at my parents house again. "Mum, dad. I screwed up," I say, sitting next to them. I know they can't hear me, but I need them there. "I really like Cami, and I let her down." I sigh. Tears start rolling down my cheeks. "Please hear me," I say, with no reaction. For some reason, it upsets me that they don't hear me. Somewhere in my heart, I thought maybe they would respond, hug me, and tell me everything was ok. but they don't; they stare at the TV. I poof away, not wanting to sit there any longer and go back to the studio.

"We need to make it up to them," I tell the boys, and they nod.

When the girls arrive home, we are ready.

"We're sorry. So sorry. We're super-duper, crazy, stupid, sorry."

Cami tries not to laugh; I try not to look at her, just Julie. "In case you missed it, we were sorry," Reggie says, and she chuckles. "Yeah, we got that," Julie says.

"We've been here for, like, three hours; we nearly sang to your brother," I laugh to Julie. "He comes in here a lot," Alex says, "mainly to use the bathroom; it is not our favourite part of the day," Reggie says.

"It wasn't okay that we flaked on the dance last night. We know we let you both down. Yeah, and none of us wanted to disappoint you." reggie says. "So, in hopes that you'll rejoin the band, we booked a new gig. A mega-important, life-changing gig." I say and hand Julie a flyer, and Cami looks over her shoulder. "Tonnes of managers come here to listen to new bands. All we have to do is blow them all away, and we're living the dream." I add high-fiving the boys. "So this means a lot to you?" cami say "It was kind of like playing the school dance was important to us," Julie adds.

"Sounds like sarcasm." Reggie gasps, "I'm starting to think our plan isn't working."

"Look, we know we messed up. But we need you in the band." I say "both of you," I add. "Of course you do, because without me, no one can see you guys playing. You know, I thought that the music that we were writing was special, but you're too obsessed with your past to even care." Julie says. "And my dad's past!" Cami adds.

"do care. Our band has a real chance at greatness. I'm not going to let that get away from us again," I respond, stepping closer to them.

"Oh yeah, so why'd you bail on us to get back at my dad?" Cami said, crossing her arms.

"I'll tell you why.' There's only one thing that you care about, and that's yourself." Julie says, and they walk away into her house.

"Dude, they didn't mean that," Alex says.

but I leave.
