- this is an interesting little relationship you and I have -

"can I get a selfie"

"picture please"

"cami can we get a photo"

"I don't know why you guys want these" julie says "but okay.." I add. then nick comes over "can I Geta photo jules" she laughs " il have to check with security..oh wait don't have any" she laughs and nick kisses her cheek. "you laugh but after last nights performance, you guys are gonna blow up" he says. "Pfft! It was just a garage party. Don't go all crazy on me." she says hugging him. I walk away.

"cami." Flynn walks over "what's up babe you look sad" I look away. "I avoiding Ivan..This Luke thing isn't going away any time soon..I don't want to lead him on" she sighs. "Aww! My baby's all grown up...shes choosing to love someone who doesn't exist but she's grown up" I laugh.

"But he does exist. To me. And he might just be air, but we connect in so many other ways." she smiles slightly, "yo have some real chemistry when performing" I sigh "But it's not just singing. When we write, we're drawing from the same pain. We both know how it feels to lose our moms, granted mine didn't die, but I lost her" flynn wipes her eyes. "Do not make me cry. I'm having a really good eyeliner day." I laugh "Lukes hurting so much I wish I could help him"

she wipes her eyes again, "Maybe you could write him a song! That would make him feel better!" my eyes widen "Oh my gosh, Flynn, you're a genius!"  I say walking away "cami!, you still have class." I walk back  "Right. Like I said... genius."

late in the day I walk to Luke's house, I remember the way from last time, when I get to the front door Luke appears next to me. "Luke!" he looks over at me and frowns. "What are you doing here?" I  panic "Okay, look. I... I just wanted to know more about you, you know, just curious. Um... So, I came here last week on your birthday. with - "  he interrupts me"You were spying on me? Even after all your speeches about boundaries? You were spying on me?" I grab his arm  "I know. I'm sorry. It was wrong. But I'm worried about you."

"You don't have to be." he says looking back at me

"I get it. I know how hard it is when you want to speak to someone you love and can't. I feel that way every day."

"I don't even know what I'd say to her, even if she could hear me."

"Yes, you do. You've already said it. Trust me." I say holding out the sheet im holding. he looks down and nods before ringing the doorbell.

a man answers the door.

"Hello. Can I help you?"

I take a deep breath "Hi. I'm cami. Um... I believe you had a son named Luke?"

Yes, that's right. And you are again?"

"camilla Wilson. Um... your son's band used to play in my friends garage? I... I came across this song that he wrote and figured you might be interested?"

"Um... Well, yes. Uh, please... please come in. I'm... I'm Mitch. Nice to meet you. Can I, um, get you something?"

"Oh, no. I'm good. Thank you. Is this your son?"I pick up a photo of a little boy.

"Yeah, that's Luke. When he was two." I smile putting it back down.

"Do you have any other children?"

 "No."

"Did I hear the doorbell?" his mom enters the room and I smile.

"Hi, hon. Um, this is camilla."

"Hello, camilla. Oh, that's a beautiful sweater."

"Thanks. It's my mom's."

"Julie lives in the house where Luke and the band rehearsed. She was just telling me she found a song that Luke wrote."

"It's a song about a girl named Emily?"

"I'm Emily." she said holding out her hand,

Then I think your son may have written this song for you." I say handing her the sheet.

behind me I hear Luke take a deep breath, I watch as his mom read the lyrics and hear Luke hum a melody behind me, before he starts singing, only I can hear, and he knows that, but he needs to say it.

First things first
We start the scene in reverse
All of the lines rehearsed
Disappeared from my mind
When things got loud
One of us running out
I should've turned around
But I had too much pride
No time for goodbyes
Didn't get to apologize
Pieces of a clock that lies broken
If I could take us back, if I could just do that
And write in every empty space the words "I love you" in replace
Then maybe time would not erase me
If you could only know I never let you go
And the words I most regret

Are the ones I never meant to leave
Unsaid Emily
Silent days, mysteries and mistakes
Who'd be the first to break?
I guess we're alike that way
He said, she said conversations in my head
And that's just where they're gonna stay forever
If I could take us back, if I could just do that
And write in every empty space the words "I love you" in replace
Then maybe time would not erase me
If you could only know I never let you go
And the words I most regret
Are the ones I never meant to leave
Unsaid Emily
If I could take us back, if I could just do that
And write in every empty space the words "I love you" in replace
Then maybe time would not erase me
If you could only know I never let you go
And the words I most regret
Are the ones I never meant to leave
Unsaid

I hear Luke crying behind me, and his mom and dad are infant of my, I can see tears rolling over their cheeks as they finish the song. I start to cry with them, wiping my tears to talk.

"Thank you." his mum says sniffling.

"you have no idea - " his dad tries to speak but struggles.

"I write music in the same room that he did, and I can tell you it is a magical, happy place. I know he was only 17 when he... But he lived doing the one thing he was born to do. Not many people find that, but Luke did. He was lucky." I hear a whoosh behind me, Luke has left.

"It was so nice to meet you."Emily says

It was nice to meet you too." I respond.

when I leave the house I wipe my tears and start walking to Julies house. when I get there I see Luke stood on the porch. "hey" he says "hey" I respond walking up to him "im sorry for overstepping"

"No, I... I just had to leave. That was..." he says

"You don't have to say anything."

"no I do" he says looking at me. "didn't have many regrets in my life except for running out on my parents. Especially my mom, so... thank you".

"You helped me feel more connected to my mom, so... I wanted to do the same thing for you."

"That was perfect." he pulls me into a hug, we lock eyes and he kind of leans in for a kiss before pulling away sharply.

"this is an interesting little relationship you and I have" he says, and we laugh together.
