(Lou's POV)
After Nolan finished the piece of pizza, he wiped his hands and sat comfortably in his chair.
Nolan: "I'm stuffed.."
I smiled at him. He looked so cute in his suit and tie.
I kind of wanted to dance with him but I figured maybe he had eaten too much.
He stretched his arms and yawned. The time was 9:14pm.
Nolan: "Hey, Lou?"
I looked back into his eyes and he smiled shyly in response. Ever since he noticed my hair, he'd been extra cute and shy. Heather's idea worked perfectly.
Nolan: "Thanks for helping me earlier. I know I thanked you already, but that meant a lot to me."
"Of course."
It was quiet between us again, even though the town hall rumbled with voices and music.
Nolan looked at all the couples dancing and seemed to think about something."Do you.. want to dance?"
He shook his head.
Nolan: "N-no... I'm alright, thank you. "
"Why not?"
Nolan: "Well.. everyone will stare at us."
"No, they won't."
I reminded myself that Nolan didn't like being stared at or watched by too many people.
Nolan: "We'll stand out.."
I knew what he meant. The other couples were straight. Two men dancing with one another would be really obvious. But he used to not care about that. Has our society changed that much?
"Want me to take you home?"
I stood up and offered him my hand. He thought about it and nodded. He took my hand and stood up.
We went outside, where the air was fresh and cool. The sun was beginning to set.
The music from the Charity Event was now quieter and began to fade the further we walked.
"Hey.. let me spin you."
Nolan: "Huh? What do you-? Oh!"
I put his arm above his head and twirled him. He laughed and fixed his hair.
Nolan: "Wait, do it again!"
I did it the same way once more.
Nolan: "Wee! Hahaha.."
The smile on his face made my heart happy.
Nolan: "Let me do you!"
He tried to spin me the same way I did. It was a bit awkward because I was taller, but he still thought it was funny.
"Can I ask you something?"
Nolan: "Yeah?"
"Are you embarrassed? That you're... not straight?"
He tilted his head.
Nolan:"You mean because I didn't want to dance?"
He took some time to think about it. He was never ashamed before. But maybe something changed.
Nolan: "No. Not embarrassed. It's just that lately, there's been a lot of attacks against members of the alphabet community."
"Alphabet.. community?"
Nolan: "Yeah. The LGBT community. But they keep on adding letters and I get confused."
I hummed so he knew I understood.
