Heather: "When did this happen?"

"Last night. Right after everyone left."

Heather: "You're gonna tell her no right? I think it's too soon for you, isn't it?"

She closed the necklace cabinets as if a robber had suddenly appeared.

"What?"

Heather: "It hasn't been that long, you know? Since.. Nolan."

She continued arranging her necklaces. She mumbled something to herself in her language. She usually did that when she was annoyed.

I shook my head.
"I'm moving on. He already did. So why shouldn't I?"

Heather: "Hört mir zu."

I huffed at her while she stopped me from walking away.

Heather: "Hey. Did you lose your German or something?"

I tried not to roll my eyes.

"Nein..."

Heather: "Es ist zu früh.. I just don't want anyone to get hurt. I don't even think Taylor is your type."

I thought about it. I couldn't be sure yet.

"Look, all she did was ask me out. I told her I'd think about it."

Heather: "But what about Nola-"

"It's over. He doesn't want me and I don't want him. I need to move on."

She sighed and eventually realized I wouldn't listen to her. The door chimed and a customer came in.

They went about their business while I pulled out my phone and did some equations in the calculator app that I already knew the answers to.

Heather: "Oh, goodness. Is everyone alright?"

Customer: "Yeah, but can you imagine? The poor mayor has to deal with things like that. It's terrible."

My ears perked up.

Heather: "You're so right.. here's your bag and receipt."

The customer left and I asked Heather what happened.
She told me that once in a while, the town hall would be vandalized or graffiti'd ever since Nolan became mayor. She said the graffiti would usually be slurrs or threats.

Heather: "It happened again just an hour ago. They're still cleaning it up. Maybe I can still go look. You stay here and look after my precious babies."

I assumed she was talking about her jewelery pieces.

"But.. I want to see too."

She shrugged and let me follow her there. A crowd of maybe 20 dolls were still surrounding the display. The colors were red, yellow and purple. The words were "fagot" over and over again. Wasn't even spelt properly.

I frowned. I had never seen anything like that. Although, I guess Nolan was the first leader to be openly gay.

After a minute,
I spotted Nolan's assistant Jason monitoring the cleaning crew. He was an odd person. He seems serious and maybe even irritable.

"Excuse me. Is the mayor inside?"

Jason: "Yes. In his office."

I didn't ask if it was alright to talk to Nolan. But I just had to make sure he was alright.

I walked in and was greeted by empty desks and loose paper on the floor. I guessed everyone was outside. Eventually I made it to the office. The door was open, so I looked inside and saw him.
