The world spins even after the worst things happen.

Someone closest to you could die or you could be battling your own issues—yet the world moves on like nothing ever happened.

All of your struggles and heavy feelings aren't seen in the midst of it all.

It's like a massive, glittering masquerade ball.

Everyone wears a smile, a mask that hides the cracks beneath.

And it's tiring.

It's so tiring to constantly be in the public eye, keeping up with a fake charade.

A charade that I will only admit right here on paper.

I miss her.

She broke me, yet I miss her so dearly.

But the world still spins—my world still spins.

Chapter Eighty: Cause And Effect

"There's this one place over on Fourth Street," Arya suggested, curling my long brown hair for me.

Lunden laughed as she continued filling in her brows, "I told Noa no clubs tonight," she reminded us.

Which earned a dramatic groan from me, "Oh come on—it's rare that I'm ever in New Orleans," I tried to convince her.

Lunden only gave me a deadpanned look, lowering her eyebrow pencil, "You've been coming once every month—for the last six months," she retorted, grabbing her concealer.

I parted my lips, feigning fake hurt, "Are you complaining now?"

Lunden shrugged, opening her concealer, "I don't know, those cherry pies you make are growing old," she said, her tone light and joking.

Arya laughed as she moved onto the next section of my hair to curl, "Says the one eating them in the middle of the night," she raised a brow.

Which inevitably earned a small smile from Lunden, "Well... Noa gets hungry, and after she eats—I need to eat," she explained, grabbing her beauty blender to blend her concealer.

I smiled, "Aw so you guys sit up eating pie together?" I asked, nearly teasing her for such a thing.

Lunden's smile grew into a smirk, "I eat pie," she emphasized, setting her beauty blender down on the sink, "Noa eats me."

Just like that, Arya and I's lips were parted, completely taken aback by Lunden and Noa's sex life—which was something they never tried to hide.

"Well, actually, I've been having Noa the last few nights, but—"

"You know, just forget I even asked," I cut her short, forcing a smile as I blinked a few times.

Which seemed to make Lunden laugh, "Don't ask if you don't want the real answer," she said, now pressing a translucent powder into her face.
