I was six years old and willing to do almost anything for a pastry or dessert.
And sadly, that came at a cost to Antonio.
Who took his cousin's beloved heirloom necklace and hid it in the woods as revenge for a prank she played on him.
And he only told me about it.
So of course, when my parents asked me about it, I said nothing.
Why would I?
I could never tell on my best friend.
But then...
Then they offered dessert as a mid-day snack.
And not just for that day.
But for the entire week.
And how could I possibly turn such a thing down?
Especially as a dessert-hungry six-year-old?
However, I didn't realize it would cost me Antonio's trust, and trigger our first argument.
But the cruelest twist of all?
I never even got the promised treats.
Instead, driven by guilt—I secretly saved every dessert for a week, hoping to make things right with Antonio.
And his forgiveness was much sweeter than any dessert I could possibly get my hands on.

I nodded, hating the knots suddenly growing in my stomach, "Yes I did say that," I whispered, setting my lipgloss down.
Which seemed to make Antonio tilt his head, "Unless you don't want to?" he said, raising a brow at me.
I immediately shook my head, "No I do," I quickly said, walking out of the bathroom into the hotel room that overlooked the beautiful city of Las Vegas.
Antonio only hummed, "Right..." he trailed off, watching as I slid my gold heels on that matched my burgundy dress.
Tonight is the first event of the weekend for the anniversary of Lyon's alliance with Riva—and to say my nerves are a mess would be an understatement.
What if she does show up?
She wouldn't.
I know she wouldn't.
