You always tell yourself that you wouldn't do certain things.

Cross certain lines.

Betray certain people.

But the universe has a way of tilting the balance and changing the circumstances.

The tables always turn, and somehow, someway, you find yourself going to lengths you never imagined.

And there's always an irony in it.

Another thing the universe loves and I hate.

It's almost like navigating a dense forest.

I have a map, a carefully planned route—my morals and beliefs acting as the guide.

But the universe is the wind, a powerful and unpredictable force.

One that blocks my previously thought-out path with ease—and leaves me wondering where this new path will take me.

Because it certainly doesn't feel good.

Chapter Eighty-Four: Full Circle Moment

The basement level of the Fontainebleau was not what I imagined it to be.

I assumed it would be flickering lights, cement floors, and dust coating everything.

Instead, it had the same marble floors and clean walls—except the ceilings were much lower.

It seemed that the workers passed by through the hallways down here.

"Just through here," Elle said, guiding us through the wide hallways.

And as soon as she reached for me, I sharply leaned away from her, "Hands to yourself," I reminded her with a narrowed look, following her into the room that was lined with people in black.

Just like that, the realization finally hit me.

Specifically what I was about to do.

And what was about to go down.

But it had to be done.

Elle has the recording, I listened to it myself... and it's really bad.

It sounds so bad.

And I can't let it get out.

I furrowed my brows as soon as she motioned some of her team over, forcing them all to surround me.

And before I could act on instinct, they were facing away from me—surrounding me with their backs to me.

"What's this?" I called out, trying to get a peak through their bodies, but they left no inch of space to do so.

They had me surrounded in a tight circle.

"Just remain still, she should be here any minute," I heard Elle say, her heels clicking against the floor.

I rolled my eyes, impatiently crossing my arms over my chest—but beyond my careless facade, my heart seemed to tick in my chest.

Anticipating when she would walk into this room.
