Love has the ability to conquer all.

At least that's what they've written about in all the fairytales I've read.

But maybe it's not about conquering love at all.

Maybe it's more about navigating a wild river.

You can't control the rapids or current—and you have absolutely no power over the numerous obstacles.

But with trust and communication, you can weather the storms together.

You can leave behind the unsteady river and make it to a much more beautiful destination.

Perhaps someplace you found during the chaos of it all.

And I can't wait to find my place with Renata.

Chapter Sixty-Seven: Tumbling Down

The conference room reminded me of Riva.

Except there weren't any windows and it was located in a building tied to many illegal operations.

Yet, I hadn't had a single bad experience with anyone or anything here.

"Lunden... right?" I said, sitting down across from the two women with Renata by my side.

The woman with dark hair flashed me a smile, "Yes, and this is my wife, Noa," she introduced the brunette beside her, who I recognized from earlier.

I looked between them both with a smile, "Nice to meet you both," I said, suddenly glancing over to Renata when she subtly slid her hand across my thigh.

Upper thigh, specifically.

Renata tilted her head slightly when my eyes locked with hers.

And as her gaze trailed my face, I seemed to grow warmer and warmer—so much so that my cheeks grew flushed.

Which seemed to amuse Renata even more.

But I was quite literally on the brink of making an excuse to get us out of this room.

Mostly, because of how needy she left me after the very inconvenient interruption.

It made me squeeze my thighs closed, hoping for some sort of relief from the ache between them.

"So when's the wedding?" Lunden suddenly asked, drawing my attention back to the pair.

I smiled, almost awkwardly, "I... well, we haven't quite planned for it yet," I admitted, knowing we had been busy with plenty of other things.

Other things as in: an unresolved murder, a crazy stepmom—and her hidden daughter on the loose.

Renata hummed, purposely grazing her thumb against my thigh, "I was thinking a spring wedding," she said, easily making my brows raise.

I wasn't aware that she had thought it through so thoroughly.

But spring sounded beautiful to me.
