You sat down in front of John, who was sat at his office desk. With a smile tugging at your lips, you looked around.
The interview room was quite spacious, and there was another door at the end of the office. 'So his office must be connected to the interview room, which is connected to the waiting room where me and Emma sat. So that's why I didn't see him come in!' you gave yourself a mental pat on the shoulder after your mini investigation.
"So, as you already know, you're here for the interview for the position of our bosses assistant. What can you add to our company?"
The interview took one and a half hour. After you were done, you exchanged a chat, just like normal friends would, and you felt proud. 'I think I didn't do half-bad!' you told yourself, and as you said goodbye to John, you opened the door to the waiting room.
There were at least eight other women there, who were chatting about the same position you applied for. 'Oh, I guess I can say goodbye to this company...' you thought sadly as you greeted the ladies before exiting the waiting room, just as John opened his door, "Lucy Burtham, please."
You walked sadly towards the elevators, keeping your head down. You waited for the door to ding, feeling a presence next to you, once again.
The elevator opened and you two walked in. You breathed out, noticing that the buttons were once again on your side. Despite your mood, you looked up and politely asked, "What floor, sir?" You didn't register his face or body, eyes slightly blurry from unshed tears.
"The Lobby." He stated, melancholy lacing his voice. "Oh, me too." You said and chuckled, remembering how your meeting with John went exactly the same.
And this was the boss, imagine that!
You lightly chuckled at your situation, watching the doors close.
"You look glum." The deep voice stated, obviously taking no shortcuts in talking you. You looked at him, but your mind was too full of thoughts to see him properly, "Oh, ouch. Well, I was at an interview..." You trailer off, not knowing how to continue.
"And you blew it?" He guessed.
"No, at least I don't think so, but... There were so many other people in the waiting room, I'm losing hope." You said, hands clutching your bag.
The elevator doors dinged open, and you two walked out together. The man hummed, "What do you know, maybe you're going to get the job without any competition." He said, and started walking faster, leaving you to your own thoughts.
You wanted to thank him, but he was gone.
You walked to the lobby, hoping to at least say goodbye to the nice receptionist, probably forever. Luckily, you saw her green sweater, and walked towards her. "Hello, again! I just wanted to say goodbye before I leave." You said with a small smile, minutes away from breaking down.
She looked up from her computer, her eyebrows instantly furrowing at the sight of your face. "Ugh, dear! I'm sure you've done great. Stop looking at me with those eyes, you remind me of my husband when I forgot our movie date! If it helps, I could get in a good word for you with the boss. You've just met him, after all!" She said.
You turned your head to the side, "How, though?" You asked. She chuckled, "The man you just exited the elevator with? Dear, did you not notice his mask?" She asked with a soft smile.
You blinked before wiping your glossy eyes with your hands, "Oh, I guess I didn't register him." You mumbled, and she chuckled once more, "Couldn't see over that curtain of tears, huh?" You two chuckled.

Asterios knew he should have layed low for a little longer, but he couldn't wait anymore. He had to see you, even though you'd get hired irregardless of your performance at the interview.
