Aurora. Baker.
Unlike the Sleeping Beauty Aurora, she spent most of her nights in the light of a table lamp with her face in front of a book. "Pen is the mightiest sword", and she was the best swordsman in the state. Who knew the last year of high school would change her life?
"Aurora! Aurora Baker?" the teacher marked the attendance. "Here, Miss!" Aurora raised one hand and corrected the position of her glasses from the other. Her jetblack hair braided perfectly into pigtails, and her beige skin gleamed just like her smile.
Her best friend, Emily, shrieked and danced in the chair next to her. "Auroraaaaa, this year is going to be so much fun! It's the last year of high school, I mean! Ooo and PROM! Eeeeee, I already made sooo many plans!"
"Ahem. Ahem. I get your excitement but remember this year will decide our universities."
"You are so right, Aurora. But I am just so pumped up!" Emily punched the air, making her giggle.
"Aurora?" the teacher glanced back and forth from the laptop to her.
"Yes, Miss?"
"The school's Principal has called you to her cabin. You should go."
Emily pulled her arm, "The year hasn't even started, and the Principal already called you for some academic appreciation? God, how cool!"
Aurora furrowed her eyebrows, "I don't understand. I didn't do anything. What would she call me for?"
"Well, you won't know until you find out. Go!"
While still confused, she found her way to the Principal's room and gave it two gentle knocks. "Come in!" a voice called from inside, and she let herself in the room. "Come have a seat, Aurora," Principal said with a wide smile. After sitting and a few breaths, she opened her mouth to speak, but the Principal started to speak instead.
"I know this might be surprising for you, a lot honestly. Although, it's good news."
"What is it, Principal?"
"Well, congratulations, first. Due to your hardworking nature and outstanding grades, you have been given a scholarship to the top-ranked high school in the state, Crestwood Heights Academy."
"TO WHAT?" she rose from her chair.
Principal gestured for her to sit down again, "I know it's too much to take in, but isn't it amazing? I am so proud of you, Aurora."
"But how is that even possible? That place is miles away from my house, how will I go there? Where will I live?"
"Don't worry, my dear. They are offering full-funded boarding, which includes living and meals. They are also paying for books and necessities."
Aurora shook her head. The Principal sighed, "You should be proud of yourself. Your years of hard work has finally been recognized and are fruitful. Your chances of getting into the finest universities in the world has increased. You should be happy!"
Aurora was going to reply when she was interrupted by the Principal, "Here is your offer letter" She handed the letter to Aurora, "Start preparing. You shall be transferred at once."
Still baffled, Aurora's attempt to speak failed again when the Principal tilted her head towards the door, "You're dismissed."
Aurora exited the cabin. She still couldn't process what had happened. It's the most expensive high school in the state, with students from rich families. She still couldn't figure out how will she ever fit in there.

"Oh, shit."
