Y/n was in her office to finish a few things regarding her newest project. It was already night, but she seemed not to be leaving her work anytime soon.

But then, she was distracted when her phone lit up with a notification, its sound echoing through the room.

Y/n's eyes squinted and narrowed to see the unexpected name of the sender. It was her ex. One who hadn't been in contact for about two years.

Wait... was it three? Whatever. Y/n grabbed her phone, completely pushing away her work to read the message.

"Can we meet?" the message read.

Y/n hesitated for a while, a bunch of questions clouding her mind.

"Out of the blue?"

"After so many months, why now?"

"What might be the reason?"

Y/n's fingers tapped across the keyboard, finally replying to the message. "Sure, tomorrow at 5 pm. Come to the café in front of my office building. I won't stay for long."

Y/n was about to put her phone away when another notification came in.

"Okay."

---

[4:47 pm]

Y/n rearranged her paperwork, putting it back in place before making her way to leave her office. She still had a few more minutes before 5 pm.

As she walked through the lobby, she was greeted and received respectful bows from her workers.

Finally leaving the building, Y/n crossed the road to reach the opposite side. Opening the door of the café, Y/n looked around to find the figure she was supposed to meet.

Or, one she thought she would see, Leehan.

But when she looked around, she didn't find him. Until someone called her.

"Y/n."

Y/n turned towards the direction, only to meet Woonhak, Leehan's brother. Y/n's head tilted slightly. What might be the reason for Woonhak to show up instead of Leehan?

Woonhak pointed at the empty seat in front of him, asking Y/n to have a seat. He must have sensed the palpable confusion in Y/n's eyes because he quickly addressed his reasons.

"Ah... you might be wondering why I am here, right?"

Y/n nodded her head slowly.

Woonhak felt a huge lump in his throat as he tried to find the right words to begin with. "Well..." Woonhak took a sip of his drink, "I don't want to waste your time at all. And if I explained it myself, I am afraid I might cry..." Woonhak explained, his voice cracked at the end.

Woonhak grabbed a huge box from the seat beside him and handed it to Y/n. "Here, I'm sure these are yours." Woonhak managed to flash a smile amidst the flooding sadness in his heart. "I just want you to know that my brother really loved you," his voice was low, as if he was about to break soon. "And Leehan was so sorry for everything..."

"Woonhak... what-did something happen?"

Tears welled in his eyes, as if it were enough for Y/n to understand the depth of his sadness.

"Leehan..." Woonhak had trouble talking, each word followed by a painful sob. "Leehan has left us... Leehan-is gone..."

It felt like the world had stopped spinning, the silence was deafening, and Y/n's heart was crushed by a wave of regret. A genuine regret. "What...?"

"I've been meaning to reach out earlier, but I couldn't find his password. But when I tried, I... I can't believe my guess was right. It's your birthday." Woonhak sobbed.

Y/n's eyes were void, away from any emotion. Her heart was pounding. She was shocked, surprised, devastated. Everything was so sudden and unexpected. She hoped she heard it wrong, but seeing Woonhak in front of her, she knew it was happening.

Losing Leehan, it was real.

---

"Please come again!"

Y/n stepped out of the café with the box in her hands. She looked at the tall building where she worked. Instead of going back to work as she planned when she said she wouldn't stay for long, Y/n made her way back home.

Her eyes were stinging, tears threatening to fall the more she tried to process the words Woonhak had said. "So it is real... it is really happening..." With clumsy steps, she walked to get her car and drove home.

Entering her apartment, the quietness hit her like a ton of bricks. She was numb. The pain was too much to bear. Walking into her bedroom, Y/n threw herself on the bed. Finally, she gave up, sobs and sniffles echoing through the dimly lit room.

"Why am I crying? Why do I care? It wasn't me who ended the relationship. I hated him for ending us, for giving up on us, but why am I crying?" The more she asked herself questions, the bigger the doubt grew.

And her final question was, "Was it true that Leehan ended the relationship because he didn't see us together in the future... just as he said once?"

---

Two years ago...

"I'm sorry, Y/n..." Leehan's voice cracked. Y/n shook her head, refusing to believe what she had just heard. They were fine... completely fine.

"Leehan... stop joking around."

Instead of laughing whenever they were fooling around, Leehan took off their promise ring, and unexpectedly, their engagement ring before placing both of them on the table. Y/n froze, she wanted to speak, but nothing left her mouth.

"I failed to see us together for a long time, Y/n. I didn't see us together in the future." Leehan's voice was full of remorse, regret, and guilt. "Y/n, I'm truly sorry."

"Enough..."

"Y/n, lis-"

"Enough!" Y/n cried. "You're giving up on us, Leehan-it didn't even start!" Without wasting her time, Y/n got up from her seat and left Leehan alone. As Y/n disappeared, Leehan stared at the rings on the table.

"I'm sorry, my darling..."

Present time...

523 million light-years away from Earth

Y/n squirmed on the couch, laughing uncontrollably as Leehan relentlessly tickled her sides.

"Leehan, please stop!" she begged between giggles, her voice barely audible over her laughter.

But Leehan only grinned mischievously, continuing his assault on Y/n's ticklish spots. "Not until you surrender!"

Y/n thrashed about, trying to escape Leehan's tickling fingers, but he was relentless. "I surrender! I surrender!" she finally gasped out, breathless from laughing so hard.

Leehan relented, finally ceasing his tickle attack and sitting back with a satisfied smirk. "I knew you'd give in eventually," he teased, watching Y/n try to catch her breath and compose herself.

Y/n shot him a mock glare, still panting. "You're evil," she accused, though there was a hint of amusement in her voice.

Leehan chuckled, reaching out to ruffle Y/n's hair affectionately.

"I'm sorry, my darling."
