Your POV
"Are you done with the report?" My teammate from the same police department, Riwoo asks. I let out a sigh and nod slowly. "I just did."

[3:05 AM]

"Let's get home first. It's late already." Riwoo says as he leads the way and rides his bike. It's not unusual for us to drive home together since we live in the same apartment building, just a few floors apart.

I ride mine, followed by Riwoo, who's making sure I'm okay and guarding me. He walks me until we reach my apartment's door before leaving for his.

"Get some sleep," he says and closes my door.

Another restless night for me. I had to leave at five after receiving calls from my boss. "Y/n, we've successfully tracked down the suspect, and I need you here now."

Within a minute, I grabbed all of the important things and sped to reach the police station. Once I get there, my department's seniors, Yeonjun and Soobin, are there too.

"You're here. Haerin will be here any minute, but we'll start without her. It's urgent."

"Suspect name..."

.
.
.

"All of you got it, right? Now, as planned. Move."

I got into the same car as Soobin, with him being the driver. "How are you doing?" Soobin asks, still focusing on the road.

"I'm fine..."

He just nods with a sigh. "I'm back. Aren't you happy to see me?"

Soobin is actually my big brother. We shared the same dream, and he was born a few years earlier. He was transferred to another office for half a year, and his return today was a surprise. He never told me he was coming back.

"Let's have dinner later. My tre-"

"Deal." I cut him off, causing him to roll his eyes. But after seeing my sheepish smile, he chuckles lightly.

"How are you guys doing?" Mr. Lee, our captain, asks through the walkie-talkie.

"We're just a few minutes away from the location. What about you guys?" Soobin answers, asking the other car.

"We're almost there too. See y'all there." Haerin replies.

"Alright, tell me if you need backup. I'll get them ready. Over."

"Copy that."

[5:42 AM]

We arrive at the location-a bar. Before getting out of the car, Soobin warns me.

"I know he was your best friend and I need you to remember that you are not the reason why he became like this. Remember, this is never your fault."

His words somehow hurt me. From my perspective, I was the reason he changed. I made him that way. "Don't worry about me," I say sternly and join Haerin.

We walk in, focusing on finding our suspect. "Rin, your turn."

"Alright." She goes to check the CCTV and confirms that the suspect is still here. I sit down at a table with Yeonjun, scanning the crowd. That's when I see a familiar male leaving a VIP room.

He wasn't too far from us, and our eyes meet instantly. "He's here," I calmly say to Yeonjun as the suspect begins to run.

Yeonjun and I quickly get into the same car to chase him. The chase becomes even more thrilling with each passing second. Luckily, it's still early in the morning, and there aren't many cars on the road.

I managed to inform Soobin, and he says he will wait for Haerin.

"The suspect is heading to Gangnam District," I said through the walkie-talkie.

Yeonjun warns the car a few times to stop but fails. "This is the last warning. Please stop your car."

"Can't this car go any slower?!" Yeonjun groans. The car continues to speed and crosses an intersection. The traffic light was green, so we had no problems chasing them.

But then, a motorbike comes from my side, forcing Yeonjun to swerve to avoid a collision. Unfortunately, the worst happens. Yeonjun loses control of the steering wheel, and we crash into the road dividers.

Our car overturns, and slowly, it catches on fire. I call Yeonjun's name a few times, but he has already lost consciousness. I peek through the window and see the car we were chasing, stopped.

He gets out of his car and walks toward us. I'm sure this car will blow up any minute. But I need to get Yeonjun out first. He has a family to take care of.

The motorbike rider reaches us first, checking us out. "Hey miss! Can you hear me?!"

"Take care of him first," I reply weakly. I can feel my clothes drenched in sweat and blood. I watch as he tries his best to pull Yeonjun out while I pray for the best outcome.

Then, I hear the door on my side being opened.

"Let's get you out."

That voice. It belonged to someone I had known for a long time. His eyes had changed. There were no stars in them anymore, just black and dullness. His lips no longer carried the smile they used to.

"I'm sorry, Woonhak..."

"It's not the right time, Y/n. Now, hold me tight. I'm going to unbuckle your seatbelt."

He carries me away from the car, laying me down gently on the roadside. I can't let him go. It'll make it harder. I know it. If he ever tries to run, the charges will be heavier. I can't let it happen.

He tries to let go of my arms, but I refuse.

"Please... don't."

"What else should I do?" he asks.

"Just... don't. I'm sorry. But please listen to me."

"I've been hiding and on the run for too long. I think you're right." He flops down beside me, resting under the streetlight on the road.

"Don't you want to cuff me?" he asks again. As if it's a joke, he chuckles. "Don't you want to?"

"I believe you won't go."

I checked on Yeonjun, and the sirens of police cars, ambulances, and fire trucks echoing through the empty city. I watch as Woonhak was being escorted to the police car. It hurts, but he still smiles at me.

With a final glance, he said: "See you later."
