Ava sighed as she passed the welcome sign into Red Claw falls.
She had hoped never to come back here, but she knew that now she didn't have a choice with her oldest sons behavior lately. She knew that something must be up with Devon, and she had a feeling that it might be inherited from his father. She remembered that he had moments similar to what was going on when Sam was a teen, and she knew that he then spent a lot of time with his father at that time.
She had tried to forget about Sam over the years, but she never could. She saw him in all three of their children. Children he doesn't know that they have.
The regret over that was very strong, but ever time she decided to pickup the phone to call him, all she could see, all she could hear, was the scene she had walked in on all those years before. And she would break down in tears and relive the pain all over again. But now she has no other choice, she just couldn't handle Devon any more.
"Are we there yet?" the excited voice, came from her only daughter, Delilah. She was her little angel, her little carbon copy, even down to her likes and dislikes, she was excited to be going somewhere new. Ava knew Delilah hated her old school, hated it due to never feeling that she fit in. A feeling that Ava was all to familiar with.
"Yeah, nearly. We'll be staying with Nan and Grandad, so you will have to be on your best behavior, okay?"
A chorus of 'yes' sounded out, two grumpy and one happy.
She sighed again.
This was all a big change for all of them. But it was more terrifying for Ava, she didn't want to have to do this. Seeing them again, and she had no doubt that they were living happily with each other, with loads of little rugrats running around no doubt.
The tears threatened again, but she managed to fight them off long enough to get the car parked outside her grand parents little home.
The door opened and both her grandparents stood in the doorway.
The rear door opened and all three of her almost fourteen year old's rushed out and into the open arms of the only grandparents they knew. Their exit from the car allowed her a few moments to collect herself.
She didn't want to be here, at all, but if it meant that she would find out what might be effecting her son then she would walk through molten lava.
She got out and joined her kids in saying hello to their grandparents.
Sam was sitting in his office.
Trying to ignore his father as he paced in front of his desk.
He knew why he was here. It was the same reason he always had whenever he came back here.
He wanted him to take a mate. Any female would do, according to his father.
But he had a mate.
A mate he had allowed his father to make him drive away. And ever since he had taken over as Alpha, he had told him time and again that the pack needed a Luna, only for Sam to turn a dark look on him and tell him, again, that if he had left him alone all those years ago then the pack would have had a Luna all these years.
He had failed her then, he wouldn't do it again.
It didn't matter to him that she wasn't here any more, that he didn't even know where she had gone at all, all that mattered was that she was out there. And if he was lucky, one day he would find her again.
His wolf suddenly sat up, an odd reaction from him given that ever since they had lost Ava he had hardly cared about anything apart from taking his father out of his Alpha position. We both agreed that he was to blame as much as we were. He urged him to go for a run, another thing that he hardly ever did any more. And not with this much urgency, at least not since Ava lived here.
He wanted to refuse, but his wolf almost took over and made him.
"As much fun as this is father." he sighed, he hadn't called him dad since he had ordered him to get his b
Beta's daughter pregnant. "But my wolf wants out." he didn't wait for any kind of response from the old man, he didn't deserve that kind of respect, not anymore, before he strode over to the balcony doors, flung them open and jumped down. Shifting as he went, he let his wolf have full reign, something that he hadn't wanted in a long time.
Sam thought that it was odd but not surprising that his wolf took him in the direction of Ava's grandparents. They hated him almost as much as he hated himself.
The day after Ava walked in on him and Susan he went over there to try and talk with her. He'd had no idea if he would even be able to get the words out, but knew that he had to try. He couldn't lose her. But when he arrived the loving older couple, who had always welcomed him with open arms was no longer standing before him. Instead were two angry grandparents who had had to listen to what their granddaughter had gone through.
They hadn't cared for his needing to talk to her, hadn't even wanted to tell him that she was no longer there, that she had left late last night with the knowledge that the man she was madly in love with had been sleeping with her best friend.
Their home came into view and the first thing that he noticed was a strange car sitting parked out front.
He knew that they didn't drive, or that any of their friends even wanted to for that matter.
Someone was here and he was suddenly desperate to find out.
Just then the front door opened and a teenaged girl came out.
Fo ra moment he was stunned. She looked just like Ava all those years ago when they had first met. So Ava had had a child. The thought made him both happy and sad. Happy that she had had what they had always talked about, but sad that it wasn't with him.
Then another teen came out, this time a boy. He looked like his mother as well, only more masculine.
They were headed towards the car, which looked as if there was still some luggage in the boot.
He had just shifted back and was finishing dressing when he paused with his shirt halfway on. A third teenager had emerged from the house. Another boy. Only this one looked exactly like him when he was his age.
It couldn't be, could it?
Had Ava left all those years ago carrying not only one but three of his children?
The last boy stiffened and looked in his direction. Then a look of pure rage came over his features and Sam knew.
They were his. And by the looks of things, the oldest was more Alpha then the others.
And if Sam did the math's right they would be shifting soon.
Oh, Ava what had he done?
