"Hey babe!" My girlfriend's head popped out the door to welcome me, but she was distracted by something else. Her face was turned behind the door and her lips were pulled in a wide smile, the smile she had after coming down from a long time of laughing. She opened the front door of her house wider to let me in, and I saw Sophie sitting on the couch in the next room past the foyer, also with a wide grin. So that's why.
Don't get me wrong, I don't like Sophie. She's irritating and overly competitive and a lot of things end up about her (maybe because she's the main character...I mean she has main character energy, not that she's the main character. That would be weird. This is literally my life) and I feel like if there weren't other girls in the group she'd definitely be one of those 'one of the boys' girls, but she was good for Biana.
I've known she felt left out by Marella and Linh, they just clicked better than either of them with her. Obviously they were all good friends, just Marella and my sister were better friends. Probably because they both liked each other, but I could still tell it hurt Biana, her bestest friends not being girls, instead her brother and her boyfriend. When Sophie came along, she was really hopeful. She would tell me she hoped Sophie would be her "girlfriend." Obviously I teased her relentlessly about telling me she wanted to cheat on me, but I knew what she meant. I always know what she means. And Sophie really was good for her. Biana's happier, and she's already talking all the time about Sophie, inadvertently bragging that they're such good friends.
"Sophie stayed over last night." My girlfriend told me. She was gonna go on about an hour long rant about everything they did, like I said, accidentally bragging that she had a good girl (space) friend. She didn't really realize she was doing it, she was just so happy to have somebody to talk about, a best friend. And I definitely didn't mind. I love everything my girlfriend says, even when it's something about Sophie.
"We painted each other's nails, played a bunch of board games, then around one we started watching Disney movies, since there weren't any boys to complain, although Dex certainly wouldn't have minded." She playfully elbowed Sophie, referencing when Dex voted for the group to watch Tangled. "Ooh and then we made one of those candy salads and both threw up in the bathroom because we ate so much!" They both laughed and winced at the memory, and I really had to calm myself before I could laugh too. I couldn't help it, seeing so much amusement and happiness on my girlfriend's face and in her voice. And the way Sophie was responding with almost the same reactions, she was a true friend. I could give her that at least.
"Ooh we were about to play some games." Sophie told me. "You should join us! We could call it round two for our competition." She wiggled her eyebrows at me like she knew I couldn't say no. Then Biana gave me her look that meant the same thing. And they were both right.
"Fine, but I'm not going easy on you this time." I told her.
"Then maybe I won't have to go as easy on you either." The blonde replied. Remember, blonde. All those dumb blonde jokes? I'm about to make them true for Sophie when I absolutely annihilate her.
We started with uno and... it was safe to say I was never playing uno with girls again. They team up on you and start screaming and basically spawning +4's out of nowhere. I'm sure the deck didn't have as many +4's as they gave me.
Next we played Never Have I Ever (girl's pick, not mine).
"Never have I ever been a twin." Biana smirks at me, pure evil in her eyes. I took a drink of the gross concoction the girls made and gagged. It tasted like expired mustard and blueberry parfait.
"Never have I ever kissed a boy." I retaliated. Both took a drink with straight faces. Demons.
"Never have I ever not kissed someone the same gender as me." Sophie said. My eyes widened as I took a sip but Biana didn't.
