"They think the body was fake. They told us she's alive and she's here at the hospital, but we're not allowed to see her yet."

I was completely still, letting the words sink it. Because it couldn't be true, it wasn't true. I was at the funeral, I saw her body, everyone heard what happened. She was dead and there was no faking that.

"Dex, you know more than anyone that this isn't a funny joke." I spoke clearly into my phone, hoping the call didn't take away from the anger in my tone.

"I'm not joking Keefe. I know how you feel. If it helps at all, I don't believe them. I obviously want it to be true, but I just can't get my hopes up like that. I'm letting the others know after I'm done telling you. You can come down if you want and see with us, but try not to get your hopes up either."

"Trust me, I've accepted what happened at this point. And we saw her body. I know it can't be true." We said goodbye then hung up. I slumped onto the couch, putting my head in my hands.

It can't be true. It's not real. She's gone.

Or is she?

Everything I heard, everything Dex told me, could it have been true? I knew it would be better for me to not believe it, like he said, but I couldn't help the hope spreading through me.

I ran out of my room, pulling Ro along with me and out to my super fancy car that I didn't have any time to admire because-

Sophie's alive.

No. No she's not. Don't give yourself false hope.

But it could be true.

Just stop. You know it's not. You saw her body.

I saw her body, I saw her body. She's gone. All that pain I felt. All that pain I feel. She's gone and there's no way she's coming back. There's no miraculous escape from this, no way she could've been saved. She died and she chose that. She chose to die.

She chose to die.

My thoughts ran through my head all the way to the hospital, where I told Ro to stay in the car as I sprinted to the front desk. I saw the Vackers and Songs already there, along with Wylie.

"No, there are no visitors allowed right now." The receptionist said, glaring at Tam. "Her family is in the waiting room. You can go there." The group started walking towards the hallway, the emo twin sticking up the middle finger at the lady's direction. I followed behind them, confused about what just happened.

I lightly jogged to catch up to their quick pace, falling in beside Fitz.

"What was going on back there?" I asked, ignoring any amount of teasing Bangs Boy I could've done.

"Tam picked a fight with the receptionist when she wouldn't tell us Sophie's room number, and just told us to go to the waiting room." I picked up on his word choice and decided to question him.

"So you think it's really her?"

"I don't know." He sighed, dragging his hand through his hair. "I want to, but I also don't. Like, we went through all of that, all these feelings for two months, just for it to have been fake? And it just doesn't make sense. We saw her body, and her behavior from the days before made sense. So what's the explanation here?" I nodded along, agreeing with everything he said.

"I guess we'll see."

We turned a corner and saw the waiting room, where the Dizznees and Ruewens were sitting. I started running over.

"Dex!" I shouted. I heard the pounding footsteps of the rest of my friends behind me. When we reached the family, some of us were slightly out of breath (Tam, you belt buster). "Is it really her?" I couldn't help the hope flooding my voice. I wanted it to be Sophie so bad.
