Prologue Part Two
*Four Years Later*
"Would you turn that noise down? I'm trying to get a head start on reading," Hermione huffed as the grasp on her potions text book tightened. I rolled my eyes and pleaded in my head for my parents to keep the music at the level it was at, yet my hopes were crushed. The journey to Kings Cross Station was a stressful one. It was the day we were to head off to Hogwarts. The day we both received our letters was glorious, Hermione danced around the room as I watched in amusement. We celebrated with cake upon my request. A truly beautiful day.
"Quit fussing. We aren't even going to have any classes when we get there," I remind my sister. I would never admit that I was worried, but my body betrayed me as my fingers continued to tap tap tap on the seat as my feet would click click click.
"Now, Elora, leave Hermione alone. It never hurts to be prepared," father hummed from the drivers seat.
"Oh dear! We're here!" Mother cried as we parked. She was a bit emotional. She clinged to Hermione and I as we walked to our station.
"I don't see a platform 9 and 3/4 anywhere," father scratched his head in confusion.
"We have to run through the post," Hermione explained.
"You're mental," I scoffed. I didn't want to suffer head trauma before we arrived, but she ignored me.
"Only witches and wizards can go through," she frowned and my expression soon followed. Before mother could start to blubber, father stepped in.
"Now, girls. I expect you two to be on your best behavior. Write us as soon as you can. We love you very much," he smiled warmly, a few tears in his eyes. We hugged our parents and said our goodbyes, but then it was cut short. The train would be leaving soon and Hermione was pushing us along. She shoved me to the platform without any warning, a scream escaping my lips.
"What the bloody hell was that for?!?" I exclaim when she joins me on the other side.
"We were going to be late! Hurry up, let's get on the train,"
We filed upon quickly, I followed one step behind Hermione. When I noticed an empty cabin, I quickly pulled Hermione in with me. Before I could even settle in, another boy was at the door."Um, hello. Do you mind if I join you?" he awkwardly asked. Hermione was prepared to send him off when I stepped in.
"Not at all," I try to smile, but it comes off as pained.
"I'm Neville. Neville Longbottom," he introduced himself as he sat beside me.
"I'm Hermione Granger. That's my sister Elora," Hermione stepped in and a held a hand out for Neville to shake.
"Blimey! You two look nothing alike!" He says, clearly shocked.
"I was adopted when I was younger," I calmly explain. I suddenly regret the decision to invite him into our cabin. My eyes were growing tired and my urge to be left alone strengthened. Hermione rambled to Neville the entire ride while I rested my head against the window and watched as parents said farewell to their children, my eyes drooping before I could fall asleep.
~"Elora? Elora?" someone shook my shoulder. I opened my eyes to see Neville in front of me.
"Did I fall asleep? I'm terribly sorry," I apologize.
"It's alright. You're sister told me to wake you and tell you to put your robes on. We'll be at Hogwarts soon," he explained.
"Alright, thank you, Neville," I say as I get up. I grab my robes and begin to head to the restroom.
"By the way, can you keep an eye out for Trevor? He got out," he pleaded about his toad.
"Of course," I reply before leaving. I subconsciously hold my head high as I walk to the bathroom, trying to ignore everyone around me. To my surprise, there is only one other person queued up for the bathroom. His bleach blonde hair shined from the light above us. I had to refrain myself from chuckling. Suddenly, the train's track is bumpy, causing me to lose balance. Luckily, I don't fall forward on top of the boy. Sadly in the same sense, I fall straight on my arse. He turns around at the noise and catches a glimpse of me on the floor. After observing the surroundings, he lends me a hand.
"Hello, I'm Draco. Draco Malfoy," he introduces himself as I get back up on my feet.
"I'm Elora. Thank you for helping me," I quietly say. Before our conversation can continue, the bathroom is now open and he heads in without another word.
I don't see Hermione again until the choosing ceremony. I stand next to her as we anxiously wait for our names to be called.
"Hermione Granger," Professor McGonagall announces and she skips up there without looking back at me.
"GRYFFINDOR!" The hat shouts from the top of her head and she runs to take a seat along her new friends.
"Elora Granger," the professor calls next. I shakily make my way up there. I had very little knowledge about the houses before, so I didn't know what to expect. The big, ratty hat is placed on my head and I await my decision.
"Hmmm, a tricky one. You retain traits that belong to every house. Although one still sticks out in my mind," the hat hums in my ear, "whether you lose or win, I believe it's SLYTHERIN!"
