It became clear, after a few weeks, that Lauren was dead set on falling in love with someone else.

Someone who wasn't Camila.

She dated four separate people within twenty-four days. None of them worked out. After that, she began going out at night to parties and clubs that were further away from campus for the sake of anonymity. No one on campus would go near Lauren because they knew she belonged to Camila, no matter how much Lauren tried to hide it or deny it.

Camila went out at night to try to find her. Sometimes she did, sometimes she didn't. She wasn't sure if Lauren was predictable or if soulmatching gave Camila an extra sense to help find her, to help protect her. She drove her home when she got too wasted to take care of herself.

The only times Lauren went with her without putting up a fight were when she was too exhausted to even try to argue.

It was weighing on her. Camila couldn't keep this up much longer. Her mental health was slipping and so were her grades. She hardly had time for schoolwork with everything that was going on with her family and now Lauren too. Part of it had to do with always making sure Lauren was okay, but most of it was just the heavy depression she felt pressing on her chest from the moment she woke up in the morning to the time her eyes shut at night.

It was difficult to distract herself. At night she would lie in bed with her fingers pressed to her mark behind her ear, stroking back and forth. It became a bit of a coping strategy, because the action made her feel closer to Lauren even without her there.

Mostly, it calmed her.

It wasn't enough, but it was all she had.
