CAMILA
Lauren falls asleep quickly. Camila knows this because she counts the spaces between her breaths and notices how they gradually slow down to a lulling rhythm and now everything is languid and even.
Camila knows it's weird to enjoy listening to Lauren's breathing. But that's her soulmate, for fuck's sake, she's allowed to be weird about things like this. Especially when said soulmate is curled up in her bed. Especially when said soulmate fell asleep trembling after telling Camila you ignored me.
She still doesn't fully understand, but she can imagine what Lauren means, and it isn't good. She wants to talk to Lauren about it but now obviously isn't the right time, so she continues to stare up at the ceiling and try not to cry, or do something stupid like crawl into bed with her.
This week has been really, really good but everything is still so fucked up. Camila's entire body is aching as it always is, but less so now that she's closer to Lauren for once. Their week spent together, with Lauren teaching her French, was entirely too addictive. Camila is afraid she's going to run out of excuses to see her, and then, everything will go to hell again. She tells her mind not to worry about that right now, not when she knows her soulmate is safe and sleeping soundly in her bed right now, and everything is okay.
She tries to fall asleep but it doesn't seem like something that's going to happen anytime soon, so she turns over to her side and closes her eyes, enjoying the fuller feeling of her heart. Definitely because her soulmate is less than a few feet away. It's surprising, how at peace her entire being feels.
There's a rustling sound above her —Lauren shifting in bed. She seems to settle again, a quiet sigh escaping her lips. It makes Camila smile. Then Camila feels something brush up against her shoulder. The touch makes her shiver. She turns around and sees Lauren's arm hanging off the bed, fingertips curled loosely and brushing against the fabric of Camila's t-shirt. She's still very well asleep, eyes closed, lips parted, face impassive but peaceful.
Camila admits she moves a little closer to the touch of Lauren's hand, creating a much steadier contact between the two of them. She gets comfortable and closes her eyes.
Sleep comes quickly.
