As it turns out, Camila is super prepared and hardly needs Lauren's help at all.
Mostly, she's nervous though, and needs Lauren to tell her she knows what she's doing, so she feels better.
They sit side by side today because they're sharing the book of poetry this time, looking over it together. Their chairs are crammed necessarily close, to the point where their shoulders touch, and their thighs are pressed together constantly. It isn't as obnoxious as Lauren would've thought, and she finds she actually enjoys the contact. It's comforting to know her soulmate is next to her, safe and sound.
"Thank you so much," Camila says when they're finished, leaning back in her seat and splaying her arm casually across the top of Lauren's chair. It's a flirty gesture and it makes Lauren nervous but she tries to embrace it, remembering she's supposed to be giving this a chance. "You've helped a ton. I don't know what I'd do without you."
"Fail, probably,” Lauren tells her, but she's blushing at the praise anyways.
Camila ignores her insult. "I wanna take you out to dinner, as a thank you for helping me. Is that okay?"
Well, that was unexpected. Lauren fidgets in her seat, suddenly unable look at her. The blush on her face gets worse and she resists the urge to cover her face in her hands. The worst part is no one has ever done something like this for her before, so she has no idea how to act about it.
"I have some ideas,” Camila continues on, despite Lauren's reaction which is very poor, and not desirable, probably. "But we can go wherever you want. What d'you say?"
"Right now?" Lauren squeaks, wishing she could've received a little warning, or time to prepare herself. She feels caught off-guard but surprisingly not as panicky as she could be.
"Yeah, if you're not busy.”
Camila knows Lauren isn't busy, because earlier she asked if Lauren was doing anything tonight and Lauren said no. She could make something up and pretend she forgot about it until now, but her mind isn't creative enough to come up with an excuse that won't sound fake even to her own ears.
Words aren't the best right now so she just nods helplessly. Camila beams at her.
