AADHRITI'S POV :

After breakfast, I changed into a traditional Anarkali suit, the soft fabric flowing around me as I made my way to the palace garden. The morning sun streamed through the jharokhas, casting golden patterns on the marble floors as I walked down the long hallway.

Just as I was about to take another step, I felt something repeatedly brush against my foot. Annoyed, I glanced down to see that the strap of my sandal had come undone. With a sigh, I lifted my leg slightly, trying to reach down and fix it without stopping. But the awkward angle made it impossible, and before I knew it, I lost my balance. A startled gasp left my lips as I stumbled forward, bracing for impact...

But I never hit the ground. Strong arms caught me just in time, steadying me before I could fall.

“Kya karti ho, angel?” My brother’s familiar voice rang with amusement, laced with exasperation.

(What are you doing, angel?)

I looked up, sheepishly meeting his gaze. “Sorry, bhai… woh, I left my sandal strap untied, and it kept bothering me, so I just—”

I trailed off as he shook his head in disbelief, his eyes momentarily flicking to the offending sandal.

Without another word, he helped me stand properly before crouching down in front of me. “Let me do it.”

I hesitated. “Bhai, I can—”

“Bas. Lift your foot,” he insisted.

Placing my hands on his broad shoulders for balance, I obeyed. He carefully secured the strap, his fingers moving with the same ease as they had years ago when I was just a little girl who constantly needed his help.

"Done," he muttered, standing up and dusting off his hands.

I smiled at him, warmth spreading through my chest. “It feels like I’m still in third grade,” I mused, reminiscing about the countless times he had looked after me in the same way.

"You're still a baby to me—my first baby," he said, gently patting my forehead, his touch filled with an almost unbearable fondness.

"Yeah, yeah, I know," I muttered, dragging out the words, my face etched with the pure exasperation of someone who had heard this a thousand times before.
