ISHAN'S POV :
Before my mind could register what had just happened, I found myself cradling her in my arms. She sank to the ground, her weight collapsing against me. Blood flowed like water from the deep gash at her waist, soaking her lavender lehenga until it turned a haunting shade of red.
My hands trembled as I held her close. I had removed the shard of glass from her body-it had taken every ounce of courage I possessed. Her scream had shattered something inside me. It wasn't just a sound; it was a confession of pain I had caused.
She was hurting-and the reason was me. The man holding her, trying to soothe her pain, was the same man who was the reason behind it.
I leaned in, my lips brushing against her ear as I whispered desperate pleas-words I didn't even realize I was capable of saying. My hand caressed her hair, gently, like I could undo the damage with a touch.
And then, she smiled.
Just for a second. A slow, deliberate smile curved her lips, fragile yet filled with something I couldn't name. Her eyes found mine, and in that moment, it felt like she was memorizing me-drinking in every feature, every breath, every ounce of what remained between us.
Then, softly, she managed to whisper, "I- I don't want to die." Tears streamed down her cheeks. My voice caught in my throat. Her words stabbed me like a knife.
How could she even think that? No. No-I won't let that happen.
"Shhh... Maine tumhe yu iss tarah khone ke liye saat saal tak tumhare liye dua nahi ki thi."
(I didn't pray for you for seven years just to lose you like this.)
I whispered against her hair, pressing a soft kiss to it, my own tears spilling freely. I had never felt so weak.
"What-how... how did it happen?" I heard Sunny's voice. I had no idea how he got here.I had been too shaken, too consumed by panic to inform anyone in the family.
But now wasn't the time to think about any of that. Right now, Dhriti was all that mattered-above everything, above everyone.
"I- I can't explain right now," I said, my eyes flicking to the body lying before me. That bastard. He didn't even have the courage to run. He just lay there-on the floor-laughing like a maniac.
"You take her to the... hos-hospital."
I said the words, my voice trembling as I passed my entire world-my life-into his arms. But not before placing another kiss on her forehead.
