AUTHOR'S POV :
"Ishan."
"It's Ishan for everyone..."
"Including you."
Aadhriti sat silently in the car beside her brother on the way back home, her mind looping endlessly around his words. Each syllable seemed to echo louder than the last, filling her chest with a strange mix of worry and longing. She was certain now-he was upset. Something had happened, and she knew she needed to speak to him at the very first opportunity she got.
Noticing her silence, Anirudh tried asking her the reason, but she brushed him off, claiming she was just tired.
The ride continued in a quiet rhythm, the tension between them unspoken yet palpable. Soon, the familiar sight of home appeared, and Aadhriti was greeted with warm smiles and open arms, dissolving some of the heaviness in her chest.
After spending some heartfelt moments together, Aadhriti finally excused herself and retreated to her room.
Freshened up and changed into a comfortable t-shirt and lounge pants, she stepped out of the washroom just as the door clicked open. Pallavi entered, and a sudden wave of relief and longing hit Aadhriti. She lunged forward, wrapping herself around her mother like a child seeking shelter.
The tears she had been holding back for so long finally spilled over. Her silent ache erupted into muffled sobs and hiccups, yet she clung to her mother, desperate for the comfort only she could provide.
"Aadhriti," Pallavi called softly, her hand gently stroking her daughter's hair.
"Aadhriti, bache kya hua?"she asked again, but Aadhriti didn't answer. She just buried her face deeper, seeking solace.
(Aadhriti, my child, what happened?)
"Aadhriti, beta, ab mujhe chinta ho rahi hai."Pallavi's voice wavered with genuine concern.
(Aadhriti, dear, I'm getting worried now.)
Hearing her mother's plea, Aadhriti pulled back slightly, plastering a small, fragile smile and hastily wiping her tears.
"Nothing, Mumma. I-I just missed you so much," she said, her voice barely steady, concealing the turmoil she truly felt.
"Pagal ladki, dara diya tha mujhe."Pallavi chided gently, giving Aadhriti's head a playful tap.
